Windymiller Posted October 1, 2017 Share Posted October 1, 2017 Just wondering what the general consensus on replacing these is - i.e. OEM Porsche items, or 'other'? i understand that the TRW ones are 'the' Porsche ones, but without the branding, but TRW seem not to manufacture these anymore since the company has been acquired by ZF and they seem to be as rare as rocking horse doodoo. Anyone used the Meyle ones - are they cheap Chinese junk? im not interested in 'Carlos-fandango' tack-upgrade spec levels (yet... ????). whilst I think the OEM ones are highly priced I think it would be a false economy to buy 'cheap' if they won't last as long. Or or is just replacing the 'moving parts' (cam bolt and rubber bushes for poly') a pragmatic solution - after all the arm itself is just a chunk of cast metal. banjo Posted October 3, 2017 Share Posted October 3, 2017 ive recently fitted the meyle ones on my 987 and they look fine.the casting was not quite as good as the original part but hard to tell a difference.obviously the real test is how long the balljoints/bushes last.i paid £110 for a pair. Cheers hi ebay seller tierod69 although i think they have just put the price up slightly. this was the best price i could find for a pair of meyle coffin arms. He is listing a pair for £118.99, Meyle part number 416 050 0000. The Meyle catalogue shows a change from 416 050 0000 to part number 416 050 0009 fairly early in the 987.1 (Gen 1) production run, from chassis number 986U774552 (my early 2006 built car is about 600 units before this). I'm not certain but think the difference may be a change to a harder bushing material. are you sure its not to do with the fact these parts only fit the rear? the front coffin arms are different from around 2006 on so i think the different part no is to show a difference.i may be wrong though. Windymiller Posted October 9, 2017 Author Share Posted October 9, 2017 Having read a lot of opinion and conjecture around the wonder web about Meyle parts vs OEM I thought I’d take the unconvential and potentially controversial step of actually contacting the manufacturer Meyle to enquire about whether they did a ‘HD’ (better than OEM) version of the 987 rear coffin arms / wishbones, and what the Shore (Engineering hardness / resistance to deformation scale) rating of the bushing material is in the ‘standard’ version of their product. Here’s their response: Good morning Jason, Thank you for your enquiry and interest in MEYLE parts. We do not have an HD version of this part I’m afraid. The inner bush has the same shore hardness as OE, the outer bush has a 10-12% increase to make this more durable. If you need anything else then please feel free to ask. I think I’ll go for Meyle come service time next year and save myslef £340 on a pair of arms compared to Porsche prices. Hope me this helps others. Windymiller Posted January 13, 2018 Author Share Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) Just received 2 new Meyle rear coffin arms ready for fitting on the service scheduled at RPM Technik in 2 weeks time. They look very nicely made, but obviously the proof of the pudding will be once they’re fitted. I got them from frazerparts.co.uk for £265 incl VAT for the pair. I think OEM one’s are about £250 each! My earlier (split) post in this thread has detail from Meyle stating that their bushes hardness is the same (inner bush) or firmer (outer bush) than OEM. I had originally ordered from design911 but they were unable to process the payment for some reason so I cancelled the order with them and switched to frazerparts. Glad i did too as design911 sell the exact same Meyle parts for £320 incl VAT! The parts arrived within 48 hours of buying, by ‘UK Mail’ with text message notifications of delivery progress and P&P was free. Overall good experience so far of frazerparts. Will report back back on the parts once fitted and driven. Ill bring them with me on Sunday to the RPM meet if anyone wants to take a look at them.
