Doug's Gen 2 987 Cayman S

Brakes have now been fitted and tested at Silverstone. Massive improvement with no fade during a 17min stint around Silverstone. The DS1.11 are fantastic however I have a proper car race brake squeal. Think I'll swap them out for something quieter for road use. Current setup is now steel lines all around, uprated fluid, sebro uprated rotors front and standard rears.

Next up are some track rod ends, and a 4 wheel geo setup along with 5mm spacers to the front. Really need to dial some of the understeer out.

Thanks! Really happy with the result, I used chip ex for the paint correction which was time-consuming, but really worked well. Then this stuff -  https://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk/gtechniq-crystal-serum-light-exo.html the 30ml kit was just enough.

Next up is fitting this lot:

Very nice!

I went for the same but got front and rear discs from Ferodo too - blank vented

Look into Endless brake fluid;)

I've already updated this on the other thread but, will update here to so I can keep track of what I'm doing.

So The car is now back from Northway Porsche. I had a steering refresh done (inner and outer track rods and ends), I also decided to have a lower control arm due to a very small squeak. Annoyingly the bolt was fused so had to be cut out, a common problem I'm told. I also had cruise fitted and a 4 wheel geo, along with 5mm spacers up front.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get a track day at Donnington next month to see how it all feels. Initial impressions are that the steering response is much sharper, but I haven't been able to 'test' turn in yet.

In other news, the DS1.11s are too noisy for the road. In other cars I've used them in they haven't been too bad, but in the Cayman they squeal so loudly!  Can anyone recommend me a good track/fast road pad doesn't make a racket??

I hear ds2500 are the pad you want

I have some to install yet so can't report directly, but bought them as the track/road good pad from what I read ymmv

The croc is really battering my wallet at the moment, the clutch is slipping in 6th when I apply full load!

So Its off to have a new Sachs clutch kit installed on Friday, just in time for Silverstone on Sunday. I'm hoping that's it for a while......

The new clutch has gone in, and the car is much better for it. I used a small Porsche specialist in Kingsclere called Autocraft. Don't let it being a small place put you off. Andy is an ex master-tech and is very knowledgeable. They were excellent to deal with and very competitively priced - highly recommended.

In other news, I had a couple of days driving in north and south Wales over the weekend. Despite it being very wet the car was lovely to drive, and, if you haven't done so before I highly recommend it. This one was taken in the Black Mountain Pass, an incredible piece of tarmac.

##Enjoying your thread! Can I ask what Ray charges for cruise control supply/fitment? Cheers!

I think it was 1 hrs labour and the part was £360 inc VAT from Porsche with PCGB discount. Silverstone Is a great track, I need to learn the GP circuit much better before tackling it again.

Small Update:

Decided to take advantage of the fine weather today and do some tinkering. I purchased a short shift kit a few weeks ago and have been itching to get it on. It's also a surprisingly easy job, and only took a couple of hours.

Very happy with the result, It's amazing how much the throw has been reduced, especially given that the stick is only around 25mm shorter.

Great job! Could I ask where you purchased the SSK from and if you used any particular guide to fit it? Hoping to do the same in the near future!

Thanks Ben!

I purchased mine from from Porsche direct and used the PCGB discount code. Very reasonable price, although I can't remeber the exact number.

I used this youtube video which covers everything in detail. The trickiest part was separating the gear knob from the shaft - I had to do it after it was removed from the car in the end. It just needed to be held upside down over a towel (or something soft) and then hit with a rubber mallet until it came away. In the video above he is able to just pull the gear lever off. Once off it goes back on and off easily.

A4069 is a good one, if you do another Welsh run let me know it's local to me and probably know a few belters not common knowledge.
