Samp4856
Hi All, Thought id start a thread for the progress and updates of my cayman, warning for the purists this will be a driven not a detailed car! but first a little car history, i have had several cars over the last 10 year since i started driving, several mx5 track cars, a 986 & 987 Boxster, BMW m140i, BMW m2, Subaru brz, Subaru wrx sti (the last of them) to name just a few, i do a fair few track days and currently have my trusty little mx5 track toy, however i quite often go to SPA or the Ring and thats where the cayman will come into play, so... the cayman... its a 2006 (56) 987.1 2.7 Manual base car, it would appear someone walked into a dealer 15 years ago and purchased the cheapest cayman they could, although its perfect for me, its done 58,000 miles with full history, i chose the 2.7 due to it being the stronger engine, plus i plan to do a few things any way... so this is how i got the car about a month ago... the car did have rear lamp tints but i got the dealer to remove them, a previous owner had fitted GT3 style wheels in grey, and had them fitted with run flat tyres for some weird reason, other than the wheels and rear window tints the car is totally standard. Samp4856
The first thing i did was remove the run flat tyres and fit 235/40 & 275/35/18 Hankook S1 evo3 tyres, (i also have a set of track wheels, but i will come to that later), once the tyres were done i had the wheels refurbished silver and fitted new crested center caps and a 7mm rear spacer (i will change this to 12mm at some point).
Samp4856
Next up, i did the De-snorkle mod and fitted a BMC air filter, i also drilled the air filter mount/support to allow a little more air to the filter, the intake sound is now fantastic, also the BMC air filter fitted a lot lot better than the k&n one i fitted to my 987 boxster S. Samp4856
Next up, i needed bluetooth in the car, so i fitted a new pioneer head unit, it doesn't have a CD however does have bluetooth audio and USB, so not too bad, the surround doesn't quite match the trim perfectly, however its not terrible at all, i also fitted new heater and fan control switches at the same time, as they were worn. Samp4856
okay so.... for track use i picked up a set of 987.1 base boxster 17" alloys for £100 (bargain), nice and light, the only issue is i didnt realise how skinny the fronts are at just 6.5j, so ive ordered 205/45 & 235/45 Nankang NS2-r Semi slicks for them, to try and combat the understeer that i am sure i will get on track, i will run the 7mm spacer i currently have on the rear up the front, and im going to add the cayman R rear anti roll bar to make the back end more playful. Out of interest, who did this for you? I am also looking at upgrading but need to use someone who knows how to integrate it with the Bose option I have on my car..... I am also Essex based. Anyway, if you grab a set of gen 2 987 17 inch wheels, they're wider than the gen 1 wheels. You'll easily get 225s on the front, maybe even 235s. I think you could probably get 225s on the gen 1 fronts, tbh. Certainly 215s. And point of order: Purists don't worry about detailing cars, they drive them! To be honest for the price I am happy to stick with these, although 225 seems a bit extreme on a 6.5” rim, could leave it feeling a bit floppy, I may go to 215/45 but the semi slicks tend to come up a touch wider, but we will see, I will keep you all posted. I fitted it all myself bud, it’s nice and easy, although I did watch a YouTube video first to ensure I knew how all the trims came off, depending on where you are in Essex then I’m happy to help

I may take you up on that if I ever get round to buying one.
