Hunting for my first Porsche: A Cayman 987.2

I can imagine on the console for sure. I was thinking it would be nice to change the dash trim currently in black to be white (might have to get a transfer icon for the cup holder logo, or just replace it entirely) . Probably inexpensive and again gives the cabin a lift.

Unsure on the red seat belts unless the door pull update is made, but hey why not do both!

yeah having a white trim along the dash does look good along with centre console.

The sports seats have shoulder bolsters and I felt they hugged around the sides of the lower back more too.

they might also have more ranges of movement 🤔

Thanks for your reply! :) good to know, for some reason I thought it was one seat option the whole while, until the R came along with the buckets.

It's also got black side grilles and wing mirrors

I think they look waaaay better with those options. I suspect the owner was making it a bit of an r clone. I sense no expense has been spared, other than, to your point, a wash of the wheels :) ....but yep I agree the front ones would be better all black.

Its a peach of a Cayman S, not quite as good in my view as the Paragon one, but about as good as it gets of late.

Hey Julian, Andy - yeah this one is a bit of a peach eh! I’ve emailed them already. It stretches my budget so do you think they would move on it or is it a fair price?

The SE, seats and rims def do it – though white is my least fave colour personally. Though they say buy on colour last right!

A 3.4 S would obv be preferable to a 2.9, but I’m sure both are great fun. Guessing the S just feels that little bit more supercar, if you get me. I wish I could afford an R but no chance!

Let you know if I get anywhere with unicorn 2.0....

Good luck enquiring.

I think that’s a great example of a low miles nicely spec’d S.

white was never my first choice, but after 4 years of having mine I’ve never regretted the colour. White certainly shows her curves off well 😉🥰

the black side vents make a big difference, and this year I’ve had some R-styleee PORSCHE side decals fitted, which seem to transform the look - breaks up the ‘slab-sided’ appearance of all the white.

They were £65 for the pair from here:

i agree with Andy, changing the front grills to black would look better (they’re reasonably easy to remove from the bumper, but you’re best removing the bumper from the car first - which is also easy with time and  patience).

Alternativley, and these are a good idea to fit anyway, buy some zunsports protection grilles in black and fit them over them. There’s a club discount code on zunsports on here somewhere.

Hope you like her when you see her - I don’t think you’d regret going for the 3.4 🤩👍🏻

Yeah, I actually hated the idea of white when I got my R but it can really work with black accents. Easiest colour to keep clean too...

It's Carrera White which is nice too.

They haven't presented that car the best in photos and if it's a 'good one' try and get a bit off, put deposit down subject to PPI... From the history file see where it's at re. Coolant pipes, brakes, clutch.  Clutch/flywheel are pricey on the gen 2 but can last untill £100k depending on usage...

I just read the advert properly and looked up the dealer

Tlhe fact they state it's Grand Prix white (which is an old Porsche color..surely it isn't that?) and barely mention the Spyders made me suspect that Caymans aren't their normal game. Also the slack prep smacked of "get her out the door" mentality...

Looking at their Sold stock I was right.  Suspect they are the type that think if it's not a 911 it's not a Porsche....I'd be ringing them now to follow up on email!  In current market it's pretty much worth their asking if it checks out.

i think white Caymans with the black accents and the side decals look sensational, like old-skool motorsport cars. WindyMillers looks amazing. Apply that to this one Matt is looking at and job done!

Extraordinary that someone buys such a lovely car then never uses it. It'll need recommissioning with a very thorough check and a few new parts I suspect (especially tyres which must be like 50p pieces 😆). Future museum piece (maybe this is where it came from?)

I think your right there Masher.....why buy a car and never use it?...it does make me wonder why?....Im very suspicious of things that seem to good......because they usually arn't........

My experience has always resulted in the answer being a family member passed away and the family kept onto their pride and joy of the car, but then have decided its time to move the car on.

A fair few I quizzed on were due to debilitating illnesses and they were loathed to part with their car for years, despite not being able to use it.  I think you'll find its less suspicious than you are probably thinking.

My personal experience I have to say has left me very sceptical of peoples true motives for moving a car on, after paying nearly £8k in repairs to a vehicle in my possession, in hindsight I should have had an independent assessors report prior to purchase and saved myself a shed load of money and heartache..........lesson learnt the hard way

I'd definitely be getting one on low milers.  When I see stuff with unusually low miles I normally think... body & interior good...mechanical might be worse than car with double/triple the miles!!

Hey guys,

I caught up over a long chat with the dealer for the white cayman on Friday – has a deposit down already. But the guy buying is apparently six foot six and the dealer doss was not reckon he’ll fit. He’s holding it for a week and then will call with if not.

I like that Windymiller and have to say white done like that is growing on me. The unicorn spec actually has the strips fitted, the pics are old. And you were all right, it was a part-ex and the garage isn’t a specialist.

Nothing new to market lately but have been trawling :(. There’s a black cayman been on there for ages and can’t work out why it’s not selling?

Realistically as well I need to get my budget closer to £24/£25k which I know is really doubtful for a 3.4 S unless I find a private miracle.

6 foot six?! yep I reckon they will struggle. Thats not going to be comfortable surely.

There is a 6ft 5 comment on this thread in a 987 and it seems questionable.

https://www.planet-9.com/threads/6-feet-tall.182737/

just over 6ft seems ok....but 6.6 blimey. Well, I guess we'll soon find out! I'll keep an eye out still for you through this week.

As to the other car, seems ok, just nothing special about it. If you are waiting it out, at least wait for something special.

Yeah, advert smacked of a part-ex and little effort.
