If you'd seen the crash photos posted on PH of that Cat D one, you'd have been glad you missed out on buying it.

yeh I saw the pics - In head I set myself of a budget of 24k bid without viewing. I think at that price - I'd be happy to take it to a Porsche specialist and ask them fix any issues to manufacturer spec

main issue for me is finding a Manual S with low mileage.

Just throwing it out there - anyone out there considered converting a 987.1 into an electric conversion? I know, I know - but just curious - especially if bore scoring comes into play...

Whats everyone’s thoughts on 987 design edition vs 987.2s?

That definitely looks tempting in today's market. The single (presumably two now the garage has it) owner is what makes you more willing to overlook the mileage if the history is there. Nothing as expensive as a cheap Porsche rings in my ears but it's worth checking out.

Yeh would be an interesting deal for sure, but I’m guessing it’ll be significantly down on power after so many miles. Especially when my budget is way higher

If this was in the 22-23k range I’d consider, but price too far apart.

987.2 S

more I think about it, I think the only thing will tempt me now is a Cayman R under £30k (even if it is Cat) which I know would be a long wait. Or a 987.2 S (with sub 30k Miles) or a high miler in the 20-22k.

to be honest I think I’ll end up sticking to BMW m2/M4 - more flexible for my needs and easier entry point price wise.

I guess it shows not many people are willing to part with a manual 987.2 - future classic for sure.

The sub £30K Blue R still remains for sale. Have you considered that one?

Has to be manual. Otherwise would have jumped on that one.

Above everything for has to manual coupe.

everything else is flexible.

Yeh I’ve decided the cayman isn’t for me, at current price anyway. Plus cant complain with the added convenience from  BMW, even if it means they don’t feel as special.

either an M2 or M4

A question to the community - how much is a fair value for a cayman 987.2 in fantastic condition with chrono pack and full Porsche service history with 75k miles? With manual trans.

I’m in talk with a private seller. Obviously they’re not that common - whatcar are valuing it at 18k private if it’s in great condition buying private. WBAC are saying 16k - obviously that’s the bottom end of trade prices.

the seller is looking for significantly more.

also I know the car market is still a bit all over the place.

what does everyone think? I have a figure in mind that I think is fair but curious to hear everyone else’s opinions

Those prices feel a little low for recent times.

Dealer prices are more like £23K-£28K depending on spec/mileage/condition looking at autotrader recently.

I recently bought a manual 987.2 with 61K on the clock in that price range because I was happy paying that price for that car from that dealer.

No regrets at all. Even if prices drop back to more normal in 1-2 years..  I don't care cos I have a car that I love.

Some private Gen2's are v high (there was one for ~£28K recently) that's too much for private by a long mile for me - but if its the car you want and you have the cash (and done your research into it)...

I started looking seriously in April, bought in Nov..  I missed a couple of really good ones because I wasn't ready at that point.

As someone said to me - when it's the right car - you'll know.

It's depends upon the options and the service history. If it were an S, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone asking £28k even at that mileage. I don't know how well they're selling at the moment but I don't sense that asking prices have fallen at all.

Yep around £26/28K if an S and circa £23K for a non-S based on the limited spec info given.
£18K is very low, are you sure WBAC are quoting on a Gen 2?  Gen 1 is sounds more like.

Well, if I was selling mine right now with 71k miles on her I’d certainly start with an asking price around £28k.

mine will be for sale in May 😉👍🏻

There are 7 manuals currently on autotrader with mileages between 43k to 76k and prices from £24k to £30k (+ one overpriced black edition + one low spec high miler at £20k).

Yep, having checked on AutoTrader, WBAC must be quoting this person on a Gen 1 as Gen 1 S's are in the late teens around that mileage.

Shame that Black edition looks so ropey. You'd have thought, for that price, they'd have fixed the net on the parcel shelf a bit better. and the carpet looks beat up a bit.

Yeh there’s lowish mileage one 43k miler for £27k (not the one I’m looking at). I guess due to the rarity of the .2 is relatively fair price, but then saying that… the cat D Cayman R on collecting cars sold fo the same price a month ago.

And don’t really go by WBAC prices even tho I was curious to see. I entered the correct registration number… so I assume they’d differentiate between gen 1 and 2. And same with WHATCAR valuation which actually considers whether the car is being bought privately or trade etc and also on condition. They gave me a valuation of 17k which as good as it sounds for me, seemed a bit low for gen 2.

anyway the owner is not in a rush to sell. So let’s see in the new year what happens.

R’s are very sensitive to spec as it is, let alone the factor of a Cat D. There was a lot of chat about that Cat D R and the panel gaps. I wouldn’t use that as a price benchmark if I was you, if you are that is

yeh that was a one off... and to be honest the was no documentation of the repairs so that to me alone is worth an additional few k minimum
