Ditto the 70k mile high spec car for £22,250. How do you take from this that he needs to pay £25,000?

As i say £23k for purchase price and £2k in reserve for a slush fund, which i think it prudent to budget for considering its hardly going to be a 10 out of 10 is it.

Good luck to she/he should they find one that meets their criteria at £20K. You see it happening. I don't. I hope i am proved wrong.

You've just quoted me saying £22,250 advertised price. How do you take from that £23k transaction price? There's a 70k mile car right now for £19.5k advertised that's not selling. £19.5k is the maximum you'd have to pay for that, and likely you could have it for less. Either way, nowhere near £23k. Some of these cars may be duds, but any car may be a dud, including much more expensive cars.

Any slush fund is a separate issue / debate.

Anyway, I don't 'see' anything happening. It's an objective fact that numerous cars meeting the criteria and pricing have been listed for sale recently.

When I started looking my budget was 20k for a gen2 2.9 Cayman. Since then my girlfriend has decided she wants the Cayman S so I've obviously now had to increase that to around 23k

I'm viewing one tomorrow morning but I won't post it on here because the last one went the day after I posted it

23k 3.4 Cayman S. Loads of history and low-ish miles. From a Porsche specialist. Having to travel over 2 hours so I'm hoping it's worth it

Don’t think there are many active buyers on this thread at moment. Any serious buyer will be looking in the classifieds anyway.

But good luck!

Isn't that what i have been saying yet Martin is of the opinion you don't need that extra £3k. and he could well be right, so offer £20k.

No, you're failing to distinguish between dealer and private cars. If it's a dealer car at £23k, very little chance £20k will buy it unless it's been stuck not selling for a very long time and the dealer is fed up. In my experience, most dealers won't budge much on a car that's been fairly recently listed.

I would not expect £20k to buy a dealer car as described - sub 80k good history, decent spec. Ashgood are about as cheap as it gets and their car was £23k. There have been numerous qualifying private cars at that price, however.

I am distinguishing from the facts that neither a private or dealer sale will be less than £23k. If it is, it's a bag of spanners.... it's that simple.

You do talk an awful lot of clueless crap.

That is simply not true and very ill mannered of you.

I follow the 987 market daily and I am expressing my POV that a Gen 2 S at £20K (private or dealer), even if it exists, is hardly going to be a spectacular car. I simply do not see enough evidence that robustly determines such a spec and history for a Gen 2 can be had for £20K. If there have been exceptions to what I say, who really knows why it was that cheap? did you see it? read all the history on it?

Not impressed by your attitude.

Best regards

I don’t agree that anything sub £23k is automatically a ‘bag of spanners’ - I do think that a decent spec, well cared for and maintained 987.2 S, with full receipted history of ‘reasonable’ mileage (for a 10-13 yr old car now), whatever a personal definition of reasonable is (eg 40k-75k ish miles) will likely cost between 22-26k whether bought from a reputable Indy or private.

2 weeks ago AT had 14 manual 987.2 S with <80k miles, this week 6. Timing plays a part, when there’s less supply I suspect sale prices (for good examples) will be higher regardless of whether bought privately or trade.

I bought it, it's in fantastic shape, FPSH Cayman S. 2010 56k miles.

It was on auto trader but not anymore.

23k.

After weeks of searching I was left to 3 cars to look at, and this was my favourite. Great spec, heated seats PASM etc. No cruise control but I don't mind. 19" alloys too which were what I wanted.

Thanks for all your help. And sorry for derailing the thread.

Way to go Bongo - welcome to the lucky few who have the joy of experiencing the life and wellness enhancing benefits of a Cayman in their life 🤩😁👍🏻

Congratulations! no worries on derailing the thread, its not like its owned by anyone - you are more than welcome. Would love to see pics please, as I am unsure on the one you mean. Cruise can be retrofitted - example of costs for that https://www.rpmspecialistcars.co.uk/porsche-upgrades/cruise-control-retrofit/

Yeah this one was posted before - Nice car but reflected in the price.

It does look okay value compared to some of the other £26k+ ones on AT however.
