You're right. They're very little difference between an S and a Sport. Unless you like the look; the script decals, the Sport Design wheels and don't want to modify your car. Or want either of the exclusive GT3 colours. Otherwise there is no reason to buy a Sport.

The wheels are not particular to the Sport. Loads of 987s have that wheel design. The decals are of no consequence. Sticking them on is hardly modifying a car, they could be removed in a few minutes with no residual effect whatsoever.

It's just the colours that mark the car out. But I will grant the orange cars do have exceptional presence and agree it's one of the very best looking 987 Caymans.

mileage wise I was gong to share it with Alan, but its a manual.\\

Looks really lovely in that combination to me. Can't understand their description of it though, annoying tactic! Guess they are the type of company that prefer to hook you in when you call them for actual details of the car.

If anyone is looking for a low mileage Cayman R there’s this beauty at Newcastle OPC. 16K miles, Buckets, PCCB, PSE, Sport Chrono and more including 24 months warranty.

I did consider it but I’d be scared to use it. 🙁

More of a collector's car than a driver's one.  Shame, really, since the best part about a CR is the drive.

I really think you'd love it. I am a very meek and mild driver and I had the same thoughts before buying mine but they don't have to be thrown around a track to be enjoyed. They look more demanding than they really are. That one is surely perfect for you - I would go try one  - I highly recommend an R for you.

I appreciate what you are saying Julian but I think I would feel guilty putting miles on it and hence wouldn’t enjoy what the R is surely all about, its raison d’etre, and that’s driving it. For that reason I am content to wait for a similarly low mileage 2.9 or perhaps a 3.4S that I would be happier to use and enjoy without any guilt stopping me from taking it out.

Further I find the 6 previous owners slightly off-putting and, from what I read, the missing A/C limits the desirability somewhat and therefore resale.

Don’t get me wrong it’s very tempting but I have given a lot of thought to it during the last day or so. It’s a lot of money and a shame should it just sit in the garage and not be used which it has obviously been doing during the majority of its nearly 12 years so far.

Yep AC is a key factor there, I forgot about that. There are a few sub 20k miles R's in PDK at present, I hear your concerns and of course each to their own, but i think most people would commend you for putting miles on an R!

I just wish I could (use it) and then I would buy it but my guilty conscience probably wouldn't let me and it would sit, getting very little use, in the garage and I don’t see the point of that – they are to be used and driven.

I was very keen on the speed yellow CS when it appeared on AT a month or so ago (and still for sale today) until I enquired and found out that the first service, and oil change, wasn’t done until the car was 6 years old and had covered 10k miles – what a shame and that ended any interest I had in that one.

Cars are made to be driven, regardless if it's a £500 sh1tter or £100k Sports car, that R deserves to be used and miles put on it.

That is a car that is only going up in value, it is so low that you are never going to loose money on it with another 10-15k miles added on top.. which is going to take some time to put on there (assuming you wouldn't be daily driving it).

Not buying a car for fear of putting miles on is a compremise too far, buy someting, drive it, enjoy it and live life.

This.

Buying a car purely as an investment... just sucks the joy out of it for me - perhaps this is for the richer person who likely has a few special cars anyway (and somewhere to keep them..)

Just driving my relatively standard 2.9 makes me smile every time.

Get something that brings joy to you regularly, that could be worth much more than a few extra grand in 5-10 years time. (Easy for me to say of course).
