Founder Beanoir™ Posted April 28, 2016 Founder Share Posted April 28, 2016 I do like the Macan actually, nice choice. Red interior is pretty rad! (80's expression) I thought the 4 large exhaust pipes was for the Turbo, but this is a Diesel?

Even some 4 pot golfs have 4 tips!
Semerka
I think that the exhaust tips only differ by colour, possibly their shape too, accross the Macan power range, rather than by numbers. ?

Haha, yes I see what you're subtly getting at My first car wa a red Renault 5. My friends and I fitted CB radios so we could chat while driving. So I was Red5 and it stuck! As for the current fleet.... We liked the Carmine on the GTS, the rest. Semerka (also on here) has always liked red seats and had them on a BMW previously. Well you did ask
MarkGTS
I had a Macan on loan whilst my GTS was in, was quite impressed with it! Having the pair really must be the best of both worlds?

It's the opposite of the GTS! That would be my GF (Semerka on here) checking out the under bumper skid plate, but I'd not spotted her knee sticking out, ruining my expert composition

Off to Czech Republic, then over the Alps finest roads to Austria, then home. We drive on the Autobahn for 5-6 hours dependent on traffic and roadworks. It's nice to get up to some proper speeds! North west, down to south east. They are rarely straight though, so V-Max runs are few and far between. We took my last car over and in 10hrs, never managed over 165mph. Was still pulling hard, but you always run out of space quickly at those speeds! We we tend to whistle along at about 120, a little more on the quieer southern sections. The 135i would do under two hours between fuel stops though I hope the SD and its 75L tank will do a bit better! Have you you ever been?
Red5
I treated Carmine to a set of Zunsport grills Fitted on on the drive in 25ins. I'm really happy with how they look! Red5
We're off to PEC again in the morning We drove a 981 GTS last time, so have chosen to drive a new 911s manual this time. I'm not too fussed about a 718 drive, as this 981 is a keeper. I know it'll be good, but we have a Cayman to play with at home The 911s is a different proposition though and should be fun to learn. I'm actually happy they're turbo now for our visit, as they'll punch out of the turns nicely on the tight little track I hope. The older 911 GTS 4 I drove before was quite aloof and leggy! I hope the new 6pot turbo help the chassis be a little more playful. I shall report back
Founder Beanoir™ Posted July 31, 2016 Founder Share Posted July 31, 2016 Does your local OPC send you in these or do you book yourself? I've only ever been 'referred' to the PEC by an OPC. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on the new 911. I thought the 718 was a pretty sad car if I'm honest.
Red5
Yes, it is a referral We'll have had three in total, this being the last. The first was the OPC speculatively sending us to drive the 'Core sports car range' when we first visited Guildford OPC. Then when we bought the Cayman we were offered another spin. That time we did take the oportunity to use a 6sp GTS, so we could experience our new toy on track. This current jaunt was as a result of buying the Macan. We see no point in hooning a Macan at the PEC though, so have opted for a new 911 instead. I'm glad we only live 90mins away! This will be it though, as we have no plans for any more new Porsche cars

Popular Post Red5
So, we enjoyed a bloody good goon in the manual C2S for the afternoon! I really do like the look of these 991.2 cars, but not in plain silver quite as much as the bright colours. That engine! The turbo does make it sound meh, but throttle is still pretty sharp by modern standards. My H&T technique needed little adjustment. It does feel plenty quick. Quicker than the C4 GTS I drove there before. The plentiful turbo torques made it easy for me to transfer weight with power and explore the chassis balance more easily in my 75min drive. It doesn't need to be at the top end of the Rev range to hurl you up the track, which is handy on a little one like at the PEC. While the Cayman behaves as a whole, the 911 is much more of a car of two halves (Ends) If you're doing it even a little bit wrong, at high speed, it will understeer, or oversteer, messing up the whole corner. The window of sweetness is smaller, but I do understand the rewarding challenge in finding it in every corner. On road though, you're not really in this window ever, so the car just feels a bit to smooth and GT like. The light clutch and gear change, combined to the effortless more lazy power delivery, make the car Micra easy to drive slowly! It's mapped to NOT dump torque at low revs, but instead to punch harder with a slight step at 5.5k rpm. I'm sure if the second turbo is bigger, but it only really comes in to help pull hard to the red line. The chassis has a good bit more to offer at the extreme end of the spectrum. It can corner harder and has generally higher limits. This is where a good bit of your money goes in a 911. That and back seats lol! My instructor Robert was great! I gave a bit of a come try of my feelings / performance, so he could quickly judge what was going on and where I was needing help and guidance to improve. Really explored trail braking and the huge effect it has on corner speed when done correctly. Also played with the benefits of straight line braking, vs more road derived wide line slower in lines. I could go go on about it all day
