Popular Post Yorkie
Just finished doing this and theres a lot of info out there but distinguishing between gen 1 and 2 differences, different parts ect I thought I’d add the results of my research here for anyone else who may be looking for the same. so, first of all it’s a pretty simple job but obviously the right tools help. Tensioner arm on the gen 2. For me I needed a bit more leverage than just my half inch ratchet. I have various bits of pipe to extend this to give a bit more leverage. Before moving it I marked up the 30mm hex part and the Torx bolt to see if there was any movement between the 2 as i was using a socket. Pulled clockwise and arm did not spring back which is the known issue with this part seizing at the pivot point. Pushed back to the tension part and could see from the earlier marks that the Torx had loosened slightly from the starting position. Released tension again, removed belt and removed tensioner. There’s plenty of guides out there for this part, Torx 50 on the tensioner dampener and the pivot bolt. Helps to have a short Torx socket. Options for the tensioner arm, replacement from porsche part number 0PB903308. This is the latest part number superseded 9A210221100 in 2019 , although they couldnt tell me what the changes are. Price £202.80 inc vat. This was as cheap as anywhere for the porsche part and I found no alternatives apart from an oe unit at design911 which included a new pulley but was about the same price. For me I decided to see how badly seized the existing part was. Best way to free it up was good old WD and a pair of mole grips on the outer washer looking part which it actually the pivot. Worked this back and forth adding wd and this is now fully free’d up. Will it seize up again in future I dont know but for now I’m happy enough with this. I may have been fortunate but mine didn’t seem overly seized up. I’ve doused it in acf50 and let it have chance to penetrate in which I’m hoping will add some longer term lubrication and corrosion protection. Other parts replaced, the pully and the damper. I looked at all the alternatives before ordering. The original parts are both made by INA. i ordered a new INA pulley part number 531087310. This is identical to the original Porsche part. The INA damper was £65.42 on Autodoc. I decided to order a gates vibration damper part number T39425 for £44.69. Parts arrived, opened the gates sealed box to find inside an INA part. Which again is the identical part to the original Porsche one. For reference I’d seen the gates part at £87 +vat and the ‘genuine’ £143 +vat. Belt is a 6dpk1853. I’d be happy using any of the reputable manufacturers, gates, dayco, continental ect. There’s absolutely no reason why a reputable belt manufacturer belt is not up to the job. I paid £17.98. At that price it is worth just changing every time an inspection is due IMO. Porsche genuine I believe is 85ish plus vat. Everything back on the car, tensioner lever working as it should and everything else new and good for years to come. Hopefully this helps someone out going forward, saves a bit of searching and makes it a bit easier to find everything in one place.
