Would love to add a GT4 to the collection one day and already have a 1980 widebody 911 (#CLANG) I also can't part with. The Gen2 models have no bore scoring issues, so are worth the extra money. Even the youngest Gen2 is 10 years old, so they need to be well maintained. You want to be seeing a pile of invoices, for suspension maintenance, good quality tyres, preferably N rated, also check the exhaust, if it's the original will be getting pretty rusty by now. Don't skimp on the servicing, find a good local indy and have it done every 2 years as per schedule, it maintains its value, trying to sell one without FSH would be difficult. Gear linkages can also fail and are not cheap. Not many parts are cheap, so even if you DIY, the parts price still hurts. Just to give you an idea, my 2009 55k mile 2.9 model, needed a couple of tyres, suspension top mounts, suspension links, a service, gearbox oil change, a fog light. So straight away I was £2500 in to it, even before I looked at changing the chipped windscreen and looked at respraying the chipped bonnet and rusty front wing bottoms. That would have been another £2k, so I bailed out at that point.
