Dorset to Southern Wales...."drivers roads" recommendations?

Gents, looking to do a long day trip (or perhaps an overnighter) with a mate in his 996 during August , any particular roads / areas worth sniffing out as we build a rough itinerary?

Not sure if it would work for you but

 

I would go to Ross on wye / Mounmouth via Cotswolds and explore forest of Dean / Herefordshire roads.... If you can stretch then up to Aberaeron via Aberystwyth (a44/a470 mountain-ish roads)

Cheers.....as it happens, my In Laws live in the Forest of Dean, so know some of that area (local drivers should stick to tractors....), but the route from there on towards the A44 etc sounds a cracker!
