jmcc42uk
Hi, Got a 2010 Cayman S Gen 2 and I want to change the gearbox oil as the car is about to turn 50k so as good a time as any for some nice fresh oil. Which oil is recommended? Some say that any 75w-90 fully synthetic will do but I've also read that Porsche use Mobil 1 or Shell Spirex. Think it has to be GL-5 as well....confusing ! Anyone got any recommendations/advice? Thanks Jon
Trickle
I've always used Motul gearbox oil, for the Cayman you want 75/90 GL5, you're unlikely to find the factory spec GL4+GL5. If if you have an LSD(?) then consider a friction additive. You won't notice a difference in changing the gearbox oil in these cars especially if you're changing the oil way before the recommended 120k miles. No harm in doing it at all though. Founder Beanoir™ Posted February 18, 2016 Founder Share Posted February 18, 2016 Does the LSD have separate oil then? (Dummies question)
jmcc42uk
Mmmm, not sure about the LSD. This the is OEM fluid - http://type911shop.co.uk/epages/de867ca1-377e-432e-84fd-bdccf2206766.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/de867ca1-377e-432e-84fd-bdccf2206766/Products/7834 Is there anything special about this or is it just Mobile 1 75w90? Just wondering if I can put any 75w90 GL5 gear oil. The americans like the Redline stuff but I've always used Silkolene. Looking at this - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-850-silkolene-silktran-syn-5-75w-90-fully-synthetic-gear-oil-now-fuchs-titan-race-syn-5-75w-90.aspx
