Bukbuk
All, Limited previous discussion hence my post here. We have a 6 week old but starting next year I will need to pick/drop him from nursery 2/3 times a week. I really don't want to let the Cayman go. Anyone currently using the car with a baby/child seat. How are you finding it? Anyone had the airbag deactivation switch retrofitted to their Cayman? Where did you get it done? I'm in the South Yorkshire area. My local Porsche dealer wants to fit the isofix points + airbag deactivation for £800ish...
GlosRich
Hi, I have a similar predicament, I sometimes need to do a school run, and my daughter is only 6. First I would get a quote from an independent specialist like Revolution in Brighouse: http://www.revolution-porsche.co.uk/ They should be a lot cheaper than a main dealer. The kit itself is £215: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-PORSCHE-997-987-AIRBAG-DEACTIVATION-KIT-SWITCH-RETROFIT-RHD-CARS/152604749281 It may also be cheaper if you just fit the airbag deactivation switch and warning light and dont fit the isofix bracket, unless you only have an isofix child seat. The isofix needs the seat out and partially dismantling, hence it must cost more labour. I'm going to get a quote from my local specialist to fit the switch and warning light and code it in, and if that's still pricey, I'll fit the switch and warning light myself and just ask them to code it into the system. The switch and light fitting are fairly easy and the extra wiring just clips into existing connectors, probably the hardest bit is carefully cutting a hole for the warning light in the console by the ash tray. I'll let you know what price I get quoted. Regards Rich
Bukbuk
Hi Rich, I had a similar thought process to you. Please do keep me informed! Many thanks
GlosRich
Likewise, let me know how you get on.
Bukbuk
Hey Rich, Porsche Revolution sent me a quote of £252+VAT, that's with the isofix fitted. I'm just confirming whether it is genuine Porsche parts and whether they have carried the work before. I'll keep you informed.
GlosRich
That's much more reasonable. I've only managed to get a quote from Porsche Centre Tewkesbury so far and they quote £461 inc parts, labour and VAT (parts £137, rest is labour and VAT), which is not too bad, but I'll get a quote from my local independent also. GlosRich
Airbag switch and warning light and passenger seat isofix points fitted by OPC Tewkesbury for £461 last Friday, all working so far.
Bukbuk
Ah brilliant. Glad it worked out. I need to get around to booking a day off so I can sort mine out too!
GlosRich
I went for the OPC in the end. The Independent would have been about a 3rd less for labour, but I wanted to be double sure its done properly, I got a wash and vac, some sweets and a drink, and a good look around the OPC, so was a good experience. Bukbuk
Hey GlosRich, my local OPC just did mine. Been waiting for them to do the amp at the same time! What baby seat have you gone for?
GlosRich
We used a Maxi-cosi cabriofix with an isofix base when our 2 were babies, but not in the Cayman. They are 3 and 7 now, so were in Maxi-cosi Rodi-fix seats now, but not isofix, just seat belt fixed. Fits the Cayman seat quite well, but the belt buckle is quite high, so you have to height adjust the passenger seat to make it fit well. Worth getting a seat protector to save your leather. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prince-Lionheart-0300-Two-Stage-Seatsaver/dp/B00882V09W
Bukbuk
Thanks for that. I'll be sure to get the seat protector. My little one is only 8 months. I think ill end up getting a Graco slim fit and wait a couple of months so he can fit in it properly. For anyone else OPC Sheffield did mine for £
MiloD
Hi all, I’ve been lurking a while and I’m pleased to say I’ve just bought myself a 987 Cayman S (gen 2) it’s brilliant! It’s got the spirts seats option, a mate runs the workshop at my local OPC (helpful!) so I’ll get airbag deactivation and isofix points fitted. My question is which group 2/3 child seat will fit in the Cayman Sports seats. The maxi cost rodifix look like they might do, certainly on the base but not sure on width at the back. Does anyone have any insight please? Thanks https://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/car-seats/rodifix-airprotect
GlosRich
Hi Milo, My car has standard seats so I can't comment really on sport seats. The Maxi Cosi rodi fix doesn't sit flat on the standard seats at the back. Also the buckle is is difficult to attach, you have to move the seat around. Not ideal cars for child seats but doable. If you can find a local store maybe you can test fit some, like Mothercare used to let you do. Rich
MiloD
Cheers Rich, my predicament is finding somewhere I can trial things with the world we live in right now! Interesting it doesn’t fit the standard seat quite right, prob doesn’t bode well for sports seats. Will keep researching!
