Cayman 987.2 200 cell Headers/Sport Cats: Carnewal vs Topgear

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for 200 cell headers for my 987.2 (UK car) but I'm split between buying new Topgear 200 cell manifolds, or buying Carnewal exchange Sport cats.

From my understanding for the Carnewal, the cost of the 200 cell cats and shipping is €1,420 + I pay an additional €1,000 which is refundable when I send my original cats to Carnewal as part of the exchange. €1,420 is approx. £1,245 at the moment.
VS
Topgear, which is £1,300 all in, but I'll still have my original cats which I can sell or keep to swap back later.

So from a financial point of view, does that make the Topgear option theoretically cheaper, or have I misunderstood the Carnewal process and its costs?

Interested to know if anyone has done the Carnewal process and has some experience on how it works for sport cats.

Thanks.

It depends on what your objectives are, really.  Carnewal are going to be solid and reliable long term, but no ability to revert to stock without buying new manifolds.

The quality of the Top Gear cats is unknown, but they should advise if you contact them.  They do, as you've pointed out, give you an easy route back to stock.

I bought decat manifolds and got my local exhaust specialist to weld in HJS cats.  It is another option worth considering and was cost effective for me.

Aaron, how much were your cats? I'm thinking of making up a set down the line. I have a seriously bad case of rusty manifold nuts/studs at the moment that I'm not looking forward to tackling.

I've never understood the Carnewal stuff on cars our age.

I'd be going for the aftermarket jobbies.

Interesting - I'm interested in getting the Carnewal for my '61 plate - can you explain why please?

I faced the same dilemma a couple of years ago, went down the TG route. Despite what you might hear elsewhere I experienced no issues with fitment or quality, the sound is awesome...

I've just recently had some Top Gear manifolds and high flow cats installed.

They look incredible out the box, and the fit was perfect.

However, whichever route you go, be prepared for the majority of your manifold studs to sheer off, I had 10 out of 12 break!

The guys who look after my car had to get a "stud doctor" in to drill and tap them.

He said it was the worse one he'd done (so typically it would be my car), and it cost £500 to do it.

The only reason I replaced them was because one of my cats started to deteriorate and the exhaust sounded like loose change in a tin everytime you drove it.

The manifolds fitted no problem.

I got an EML light come up after the first 100ish miles, saying there's an 02 issue after the cat, got it cleared, and touch wood its been OK since. 👍
