Luke
Hi guys, So over the last week or two I've started to notice that my clutch hasn't felt quite right, and then a couple of days ago it started to slip badly on the motorway and juddered terribly coming away from junctions, so it's definitely time for a new one. The car has done 55k miles now so it's something I've been expecting and planning for since I bought it 7 months ago. It's also about the right time for a major service, which will need to include a replacement polyrib belt, brake fluid and spark plugs, so best to lump them in together to reduce labor rates. I've started to get quotes from independent garages, the one I'm leaning towards at the minute is Revolution Porsche in Brighouse, even though it's 120 miles from where I am in Shropshire, they seem to have the best reputation out there on the forums and are quoting £1191 for the work, which seems very reasonable to me considering the amount that needs doing. OPC Wolverhampton have quoted me £1750, which is £550 more than Revolution but much less than what I was expecting at an OPC. The question is, is it worth the extra £550 to have a nice OPC stamp in the logbook? Or considering that my 2009 Gen 2 Cayman is only worth ~£20k now and that my logbook already has an Independent garage stamp from the previous owner should I save my money and go for a reputable indy? Also, any recommendations for other Independents to try in or around the Midlands? So far I've tried CavendishPorscha (£1456) and I'm waiting to hear back from Cotswold Porsche Specialists. Thanks, Luke
Founder Beanoir™ Posted January 30, 2017 Founder Share Posted January 30, 2017 I'd go with Revolution if you're up that way, they do have a good reputation. That's a good price they quoted, but not too cheap. I used RPM Technik last week for a major service and they were really good, true enthusiasts. Might be a bit far for you though, near Tring, Herts. To give you an idea I paid £780 without a clutch or plugs.

I'm not actually up that way, they're 120 miles from me, which coincidentally is the same as RPM Technik, so I'll give them a call tomorrow to get a price from them too. It's annoying that there doesn't seem to be any specialists with a good reputation any where near me in Shropshire that I can find. But then again I don't mind travelling if the price is right and I know I'm going to get a quality service. Andy L
Hi Luke, I'm not that far away from you (Stoke on Trent) and I've also been looking into Porsche specialists in the Midlands and North West. PCT in Coventry have been around for years and have a very good reputation and the workshop looks superb. There are also a couple of companies in Souh Manchester which isn't too far from you, Sports and Classic (Knutsford) and JMH (Holmes Chapel). You've also got Ninemeister a little further afield in Warrington.
Stokepotter
I've used PSI Tuning in Stoke for both my Cayman and my previous 996. Never had any issues and very competitive on pricing. Ask them for a quote you'll be pleasantly surprised.
DJMC
Not that they're near (maybe for Andy L?) but GCR in Leicester have a good reputation when I researched them previously. http://gcrcentral.co.uk I'd go indy in your situation btw.
Luke
Thank you very much for your suggestions so far guys, got 4 more places to try tomorrow now! Appreciate it
Langlord
I agree go indy, as if there is already an indy in the log book it wont have any impact on saleability. Also I think the whole Porsche community respects the specilistist out there anyway so a saving like that has got to be worth it.
