IMS Bearing

Recommended Posts

I have just picked mp my first Porsche,   an 06 Cayman S :).  Recently popped in to see a Porsche specialist, who suggested the first thing i should do is check the IMS bearing.  My understanding is that the cayman did not have any issues with the IMS bearing,  anyone here have a different view on this?

Thanks

I've owned a Gen 1 for 5 years and visit Porsche forums every day.   IMS bearing failures on Caymans to date have been very few so I personally don't worry about it.

Thanks for that,  i know anything can happen,  but its good to know odds are somewhat on your side against this happening :)

There's a plethora of information on the IMS issue/solution, Google is your friend here and it is well worth researching, but you'll need to make your own judgement on this.

It's never going to be "a problem" until the bearing fails...then it's a BIG problem.

Thanks for the info.  Car currently getting serviced, new rear shocks etc,  and specialist was going to use a camera to check IMS bearing.
