Engine startup problem - 07' CS

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Over the past couple of weeks, the car has been struggling at startup. When I turn the key in the ignition barrel, I can hear the engine try to turnover but it's not firing up. I have to pump the accelerator a bit or, try and turnover a 2nd time. The issue is intermittent, no matter time, engine cold or used with past 5 mins.

Is it a common fault? Thought possibly coil packs?

AC

The only thing that has changed recently, was the addition of a small 400w amp. However, I don't think the issue is power related i.e. not lights dimming etc

Not sure what other troubleshooting steps I can look at?

Thanks

Possibly spark plugs are fouled/ failing or indeed coil packs?

Did the starting issue occur immediately after fitting the amp?

Hi @Mavrik, thanks for the reply.

No it wasn't straight after, maybe a week or 2... but I don't drive the car every day.

Approx 12-18 months ago my Porsche specialist said that he had seen some cracking on the top of at least 1 coil. The Coils have never been changed, so I will look at changing the coil pack and spark plugs anyway. Most likely I will use the BERU

Are the Denzo Iridium Power plugs any good?

Thanks

@anon_uk Did you get to the bottom of this issue?

I would look at replacing the coil packs for Beru units & new plugs.

I use Denso Iridium in my 350z HR & they are just as good as NGK Iridiums imo... The only issue using Iridium tipped plugs is that they are prone to fouling (especially in a "boxer" engine that is prone to ring blow-by) ... I use Bosch Super 4 plugs in my S.

Hi @Mavrik,

Thanks for your feedback. I changed the coil packs and plugs (Bosch), and when the car is running it feels so much strong and responsive. It was done by a Porsche specialist that I use, he did say in fairness he didn't think that was the issue with starting up.

He said that he had seen many times before the same symptoms and although it doesn't show an error code and temp sensor fails, and with it thinking it is cold too much fuel is let in and effectively floods the engine.

So, i'm booked in again in a few weeks to change the sensor. May get IPD Comp plenum at the same time?
