Ben
Hi all Purchased my 987 Cayman a few months back having owned a Nissan 350z for many years and have to say the Cayman is a great drivers car, so really enjoying it so far! It's a base 2.7 in atlas grey which I think is a really nice colour. Only issue is the exhaust note is no where near as evocative as the Zed so considering having the Carnewal GT exhaust fitted - would appreciate people's thoughts on this if they've done something similar. And if there are any get togethers being organised in the Hants area I'll do my best to be there! Cheers Ben
Craiglm68
Welcome Ben! I'm just down the road near Poole, have gone the Carnewal route (and a DMS remap, near you in Southampton), happy to discuss further (or meet up down the track!) Ben
Thanks for the welcome, yes I've done a bit of research into Carnewal exhausts and I'm pretty sure I'll get it done in the new year! Did you guys go over to Gerts place in Belgium to have it fitted? I quite fancy the idea of a road trip over there. Would be good to meet up - are there any events in the southern region coming up? bud4208
Hi Ben, I used to own a 350z too for a couple years and I had a Cobra exhaust fitted to mine. I also now drive a 2.7 Cayman. How have you found driving it vs the zed?

Hi Ben, nothing major re the COC itself, some PCGB events in the Dorset/Devon region....or we organise one of our own! I had my system delivered/fitted over here, but a few have done the road trip and by all accounts Gert is an excellent host, and the general experience of seeing his workshop etc is great. We will look to do a Southern Breakfast Meet in the coming months, so if you guys have any venues in mind that would be good for breakfast and a decent parking area then do PM me with details ?

I still have the Zed (for the time being anyway!) and I have to say that I still think it's a great car - probably one of the best you can buy in terms of bangs for bucks. Its a 2004 GT, not modded, which I've owned for over 9 years. I bought the Cayman as I fancied a change - and I always wanted to try out Porsche ownership. For me, the best way I'd describe the difference between the 2 is that the Cayman has a much more 'go kart' feel, whilst the Zed feels more like a big GT. On paper I think the Zed is supposed to be quicker but in the real world it doesn't feel like that. If I had to take a long trip to the other end of the country on mostly motorways I think the Zed would be the better choice, with the extra torque and 6 gears. If I wanted a drive around the twisties on mostly b-roads though, it would be the Cayman, which feels much more nimble and responsive. I do find the Cayman's gear change a little vague sometimes though - the Zed and my previous MX-5 had a much more rifle-bolt feel to the change. Not sure if you found the same? The biggest surprise with the Cayman was how practical it was (relatively speaking!) - the strut brace in the rear of the Zed was a nightmare for storage, but I'm still amazed by the number of shopping bags I can fit in the 'frunk' of the Porsche!

Sounds good! Could I ask, did you replace the exhaust tips at the same time? I'm considering changing to a dual tail pipe but not sure what the cost would be. I did some research on the web, there are a few after market options out there (none cheap....)

Craiglm68
Anyone interested in this? If so, I can pick it up as a separate string, as looks like another person has popped up asking about Southern/South West meet ups.

Popular Post Ben
Finally had 5 minutes spare to update on my recent trip over to Belgium to have my Carnewal GT exhaust fitted. What a fantastic all round experience. We made the most of it (well it was my birthday!) by having an extended city break in Ghent which is only 45mins away from Gert's place. Ghent is a beautiful medieval city, with a large student community, so has loads of great places to eat and drink! Conditions were perhaps not ideal for driving across the Belgium countryside (we had a few inches of snow the day I went to Gert's, and it took me a few attempts to get up his driveway!) but the friendly welcome and great service more than made up for it. An hour or so after arriving and tea and chocs consumed we were back on the road, new exhaust fitted, along with some lovely 981 CS tailpipes which really do set it off. And the noise - wow - as many others had said, its night and day compared to the stock exhaust. I particularly like the pop and crackle on the over run 😄. Between 3 and 5k revs in particular it sounds amazing. And for the price, I don't think you can get much better. Gert and his wife are great hosts - he gave me lots of advice on future potential upgrades, and a little tour of his workshop. A few pics of the trip below!

They weren't cheap but I'm very glad I got them!
