jaybell2908
Hi Guys, the foam seal has broken around the tail light in the rear window of my 07 cayman. Question is should I replace the whole light or just remove the loose seal? If I was to replace it, how much are they and where to get them from? If I remove the seal, is the light ruined and get full of moisture and dirt? Are there clear instructions of how to remove it anywhere? Seen a few bits but nothing super clear of how to remove the tailgate trim?
Popular Post Bushman
its fiddly to remove the lid trim and you will need a plastic trim removal tool kit to pry off the trim clips without damage. better to do it on a warm day to, cold brittle plastic snaps easily. There are 2 small screws under pop off covers holding the pulldown handle on, these need to come off first. then using one of the plastic mini crowbar type trim removers, you slide round under the trim edge until you feel the metal and plastic trim clips. using the crowbar like a seesaw to pop the clip downwards without pulling in the edge of the trim. repeat all the way round. the trim has cables behind it so be careful. this should give you enough access to the upper brake light foam seal to re position it with a spot of superglue. while you can get to it, check the steel mass counterweight bolted to the lid, its on rubber mounts and they sometimes rattle and clank over potholes. I packed the edges on mine with sticky foam tape. hope this is useful.
Sam@IoM
Mine has done the same, I'll give this a go before it comes out of hibernation. Thanks for the post.
