Lennym1984
Hi I've been a member over on boxa.Net for a few years but sadly, thanks to a run in with a foreign tourist driving on the wrong side of the road, my boxster has been written off and I'm back in the market for a Porsche. I do quite a few track days and so a Cayman is currently top of my list (prior to the accident I was looking at Caterham style kit cars, needless to say, the idea of a small, lightweight car made of fibreglass and box section, now holds much less appeal). Prepare yourself for a barrage of questions and if anybody knows of a reasonable 2.7 (reading pistonheads has scared me off a gen 1 3.4) going for around the 10-11k mark feel free to send them my way! Ben
Welcome Lenny, I have had my gen 1 2.7 for over a year now and would thoroughly recommend it. If you have any questions happy to help if I can.
sevenfourate
Welcome aboard Lenny. I've only had my 2.7 for 6 weeks or so. Love it as a car ! (Road only) The only thing i can add - is that Gen 1's appear to definitely need some sump work / a baffled sump etc if tracking [At the very least ?] to avoid oil starvation on track. Due to the location of the pick-up point; and the risk of oil not being picked up and circulated on a long sweeping corner i believe i read..... Worth investigating / factoring in at the very least. Good luck. Edited September 2, 2019 by sevenfourate

I think this issue affects Boxsters as well although I personally never experienced it. I believe it is magnified when running track tyres (r888s etc)

Popular Post Lennym1984
So I'm pleased to say that the title of this topic can now be changed from potential owner to "Owner." I pick up a very nice 2.7 on Saturday. It's a bit leggy (95k) but it has been maintained above and beyond the Porsche schedule (annual servicing) and aside from a stone chip, a bit of gravel rash on the front wheel arch/sill, and some slightly bubbly wheels, it looks to be in good nick. Most importantly, both the car and the seller appeared to be genuine (I've been to look at a few so called "mint condition" cars which had nicely polished paintwork but appeared to have been neglected everywhere else - significant IMS/RMS oil leaks, blowing exhausts, questionable history etc). It (the Cayman) is a very different car from the 986 Boxster. Much more refined and solid feeling (I didn't see a receipt fror suspension but this one felt very tight - more so than I was expecting given the mileage - but lacking a bit of the rawness that I liked in my old car. Overall, I'm very excited to get my hands on it. In terms of plans, I'll probably flush the brake fluid with DOT 5.1, stick a new set of Mintex 1144 pads on it (unless anybody has preferred track pads for this car), add a set of gt3 brake ducts, and then take it to the track for a shakedown. ...Watch this space for plenty of annoying questions!!
