I think if theres anyone who knows how to jolly up a black car its Mr Tipper. ;)

Hi both. Basically a really really good clean and detail and ceramic coating. With my circumstances of living in London, then I dont have access to a garage. With my previous car, a 944T, I found that a car cover (an expensive one from https://www.specialisedcovers.com/ ) actually did more harm than good to the paint work. With autumn/winter coming I figured rather than a car cover for the R, I would do ceramic coating. I am aware of the pros and cons, but for my circumstances, I'm giving the R the best chance it can have I guess. Thats all I can do.

Richard was kind enough to allow me to view his R before I bought my one (in same Basalt Black), as I was having pre-purchase jitters and wanted to see one in real life closer to home before travelling all the way to buy mine. Seeing his clinched it in my mind to go ahead and buy my one. His is epic huh. The condition of mine is pretty darn good I'd say (it was wrapped in blue for many years which probably helped keep it in shape) ... so I think it will be lite touch prior to ceramic coating...but I am no subject matter expert on detailing.

I'd like to do a car cover, but i fear it will do more harm than good in the long run.

Best regards

Julian

PS yep on subsequent washes. I have been watching videos on advice for that. I did use https://www.swankwash.com/ but now getting an outside tap sorted so I can do it myself!

Car covers do seem to cause problems in the long term use in my experience no matter how much one spends . When it's windy it moves around marking the paint condensation another problem.

The best way to use a cover in short-term which I have  only done overnight is to put a soft fleece concerning first then the outdoor cover over the top.

I have one garage my other cars live outside so don't bother with covers so a good protection which ever one you prefer is the best bet.

Enjoy.

Had my car Gtechniq coated and have used a Classic Additions ultimate outdoor for 3 years now.
As long as the car is spotlessly clean as is the cover. Strapped down tight and parked somewhere sheltered then I don’t see an issue. My cover has not marked my car at all.

That s good news your obviously very meticulous about fitting your cover but personally I have fitted a soft fleece C/A cover underneath but as said only fitted overnight . Might be a good idea on black.

Can't comment myself on marrying but have heard and seen from others using covers.

So maybe the key is taking care fitting a cover.

Gtechniq is a good product like many of the sealants on the market but like any coating as I am sure everyone is well aware care washing the car is still needed.

Absolutely. The cover ONLY goes on straight after it’s washed and dried. It never goes near the car otherwise.

Good call on the fleece on black as black shows absolutely everything.

Thank you both. When you say fleece, so in effect, a soft indoor cover - and then the outdoor on top yep? Any make recommendations as to your point on damage when putting it on, I found the Specialist one very tight to get over some of the curves of the car....I get its got to be tight though

I’ve always used car covers both indoors and out.  Never had problems with swirls on the paint.

The last cover was the best I’ve tried. An outdoor cover for the Lotus (because even when they’re brand new they still let water in!).  The fit and quality were excellent.  They’re made to order in the U.K.  I had the Stormshield +

The Specialised Stormsheild+ was the one I had, which I didn't really care for too much.

Once it got wet it would take days to dry out, but thats probably stating the obvious?! and when it rained, supposedly it should keep the car dry underneath right? yet when removed the car would be damp all over.

Perhaps it was as much the 944 as it was the cove?

I have heard these are very good https://www.instagram.com/goodwoolofficial/

but they cost about 4000Euros....and probably paying more for the style than the difference in quality.

I’ve got the Classic Additions Ultimate Outdoor and the material on it is better than anything else I’ve seen from anyone else including Specialised.

Is the material light weight on the Classic Additions? I ask as it is hard to tell from their website pics. The specialisedcover one I had was almost like a fabric and way too porous. The Classic Additions does look good. Maybe things have moved on since I last bought the specialisedcover 12 years ago. A pic or two of your Classic Additionss would be great if you could share please if possible Presume you did the bespoke fit at £400+

Thanks

J

this is close to the material on the Outdoor SpecialisedCovers one I had. As you see it is very fabric like, and absorbent. When rained upon it weighs a ton and a total hassle to remove off the car. Is the Classic Additions a similar porous material?

As promised I got some more pics of the cover.

Superstar thank you. Would it be highly annoying of me to ask if you could share of photo of the material close up just to see both side of the material. Sorry to ask. If a hassle no worries. Thank you again
