Popular Post Stutopia
Hi, I've had my 981 GTS now for a couple of months, starting to get a feel for her. This is my first Porsche and I am very much enjoying the experience so far, despite the big rims and the sport chassis, it's still an appreciable step up in comfort for me and the reduce interior noise is very pleasant indeed. Unusually for me and my previous car history (350z & BRZ)... I'm not itching to do any mods, she seems great right out of the box and I'll keep the BRZ around for a while as a I have trackday booked at Spa in April (fingers crossed we're allowed out) which I can mess about with. That said, I've recently removed some Pirelli P Zeros that I did not really enjoy and replaced with MPS4S all round. Been a Michelin fanboy for a while now, but this is the first time I've been had rims which fit the the 'S' versions, so looking forward to getting to know them better when it warms up. They already feel and sound better around town and low speed, so fingers crossed this continues. Having seen some nice wheels from Augment, I could be tempted into dropping down to a 19", fitting something a bit retro looking and making her a bit more comfortable, but first I have a few maintenance items to take care of. Dropped her into Sheffield OPC today to get Cruise Control retrofitted, they have thrown up a few opportunities for business, as part of their inspection. Some of which are more pressing than others. First off is an oil leak, naturally this is a pressing one, I can't give you much to go on as not seen it myself yet, other than the below image but any thoughts /comments/suggestions are all very much welcome. http://i.imgur.com/D17yu5B.jpg The other items are less of a concern, the PSE valves appear to be stuck open, so it sounds sweet but I have no stealth mode - I've seen a few threads saying these can be freed with penetrating fluid and gentle working, so will try that first. They also highlighted the front offside is about a degree out of camber alignment. I was planning to get her set up anyway, so won't do this with Porsche, but was wondering if anyone has any views on geo - do people typically go for Porsche spec, or is there a 'forum special' setup out there I might refer to? Last but not least, I don't usually go to the Dealer, but for cruise control retrofit it seems appropriate. I'd much rather be using an independent specialist, can anyone recommend somewhere in Yorkshire (ideally near Sheffield, but I will travel for a quality service). Thanks, Stu.
Founder Beanoir™ Posted January 11, 2021 Founder Share Posted January 11, 2021 Hi Stu, welcome to the OC! Lovely looking GTS, a sweetspot I think for the Cayman. I can't really see where the oil leak is coming from there, didi the OPC not advice what needed replacing to fix it? If the camber is out by 1degree on one side then you will notice the difference after you have that re-aligned, thats quite a bit. @Windymiller is the forum expert on failed PSE valves, I'm sure he'll offer some advice!

Thank you, I'm very pleased with the purchase. Well, I was until I started looking at the GT4, GT3RS and 992s in stock at the dealer 🤣 In answer to your question, yes. The OPC sent me the image this morning, after initial inspection, to ask if I wanted it investigated. Which is when posted, since then they have advised it is coming from the timing tensioner seal, which is now being replaced. Leaking oil is always a heart in mouth moment, so I'm quite pleased it's nothing too serious. It's been a very friendly and efficient service so far, I can't complain. Glad to have nipped it in the bud, didn't spot any stains on the drive, so can't have been there long.
Popular Post Windymiller
Welcome to the COC Stu - lovely looking 981 GTS 🤩👍🏻 Re your PSE stuck in open (noisy). Take a read of my thread here on similar woes on mine. Don’t worry - it is relatively cheap and ‘easy’ to fix. Do not let OPC tell you that you need complete new rear silencers at £3k each!!! 😲 happy to talk you through fault finding if you want to DM me a mobile number for a call. Or just ask questions in the PSE thread. 👍🏻 These cars are wonderful machines, but be prepared for the labour of loves that they can obsessively become... 🤪

I'll do some simple penetrating fluid and wiggling to start with (zero cost). I must admit I did chuckle when they floated £3k for replacement, particularly as it is stuck in the KICK ASS NOISE position, which is fine with me (though I'd like to work for cold starts, for the neighbours sake).
