Just finished watching the YT video with Max and you/your R and thoroughly enjoyed it!  👍  Nice car also. 😀

To be honest a CR would be wasted on me and not used to its fullest potential although I do appreciate what makes it so special.  I think Max probably summed it very well when he said the car was 'more than the sum of its parts'.

Lazy mode on:

Please can you share a link to that vid on YT?

As the WANTED post above I have contacted the following Porsche Specialists recently and given them details of the Cayman I am looking for:

Ashgood Classic & Sportscars

RPM Technik

Dove House Motor Company

Cameron Sports Cars

911 Virgin

Redline Specialist Cars

Are there any other Porsche or specialists car sales companies you would recommend that I contact to increase my chances of finding a suitable car?

Thanks,

Alan W

Hi Alan

That is a good thing to do. One other to consider is JZM Porsche Sales -  though they don't get many 987's through their doors, but whenever they do its always cream of the crop.

Also try mrsportscars  - as we have continuously seen this guy seems to find the best spec 987's in the country. To date, none that meet your mileage requirements, but worth connecting with him as he is obviously well connected (I'd imagine so).

Williams Crawford. Cridfords. Steve Bull. Would also give Sean at FlatSixClassics a buzz.

I can't see a lot of the places listed so far making much of an effort for a 2.9 Cayman deal, it's a bit small fry for a lot of them. But Sean might.

There's also a place called Motorhouse Of Shipley that always had remarkably low mile 987.2 stock when I was looking. No idea where they source the cars or how good an operation they are, but they certainly have had a lot of low mile cars.

Generally, I think you've got to just keep on top of AT, PH, Ebay, Facebook and the PCGB classifieds. Sadly this forum insists on charging for access to post private sales, and so the result is that only three cars have been listed this year. Very much the wrong strategy as it's clearly not generating any money with the tiny number of listings of any kind but it is preventing this forum from being the place to go for privately listing and buying Caymans in the UK. Which I think it quickly would become if private ads were free. And then in turn the site could charge the dealers to advertise, which they would if the private sales side looked busy and vibrant. And the site would make more money not less with free private ads. Never mind.

Anyway, Facebook is a bit of a nightmare as the classifieds system / marketplace part of the site is pretty broken and keeping track of posts on various groups is labour intensive. But there are sometimes cars on FB that aren't anywhere else. Often people whack the car up on FB for a quick punt before listing it on the more traditional sites.

Enquiry sent to M R Sportscars and JZM Porsche - thanks Julian.  👍

You could call back Cameron and ask them to pass on an offer to the person who bought that one. Easy to say as its not my money but if you offered say £5K over what they paid for it, you never know, stranger things have happened.

Thanks for the recommendations Martin, I'll send emails to them today.

With regards to Motorhouse of Shipley I had a very bad experience buying from them a few years ago and would not buy from them again.

Autotrader and Pistonheads are on my daily list of searches and I'll add ebay and the PCGB classifieds, thanks.  I'm not on Facebook and will need to give that platform a miss.  Yes, a shame that there are so few cars for sale here on COC as I would prefer to buy privately and meet the owner, if at all possible, and get to see the condition of the car before a detailer goes to work on it.  No disrespect to the high standard of preparation that many of the Porsche specialists go to but 'detailing' has been my hobby for nearly 20 years now (I have over 8k posts on Detailing World) and I really want the pleasure and satisfaction of machine polishing and detailing the car myself.

I tried that a few weeks ago just after the car was sold and before it was collected to no avail, unfortunately.

That I am aware of...but I mean now, as it might end up being a short lived time with the current owner.

Hi Julian,

I contacted Cameron again yesterday and will continue to do so on a monthly basis in the hope that ownership is indeed short lived.

Today has seen me add Williams Crawford, Cridfords, Steve Bull and Flat Six Classics to the list of specialists I've sent emails to.

Thanks again to yourself and Martin for the contributions and suggestions.  👍

Not sub 20k, but got to be worth a look. Low enough miles that it might be super fresh.

Thanks Martin and I have shown interest in that car.  However, it has had paint and that is one red line I won't cross.  I appreciate that a lot of secondhand cars sold through OPC's when they were younger got their front bumpers painted if there were more than a certain  number of stone chips but more than a bumper and the car is not for me.

It's tricky. Agree it's nice to avoid paint to the metal panels, both in terms of finish and longevity. Never the same once painted.

The best car condition wise I ever bought was a 40k mile gen one Cayman, easily better than the 30k mile one I bought a few years ago which was itself pretty good. If you'd said it was a 10k mile car, you'd have believed it from looking at it. I would just be a bit flexible on the mileage. Anything sub 40k miles might be in really good knick, while a 20k mile car treated badly and that lived outside for a few years could be a bit rough.

I used to work for a Japanese auto maker and had the pleasure of occasionally calling the docks to chase cars that had mysteriously got delayed (translation: ragged around relentlessly and then banged into something by the people unloading them)... You'd be amazed/surprised at the number of new cars that are painted before the dealers even get them.

That said, I do agree with you that factory paint is hard to better, although for me personally, as long as the metal underneath is in good shape (ie. paint isn't hiding a load of filler), I'm not too fussed... which is handy given that I have recently painted my race car with spray paint that I bought from Poundland (it did cost me £2 per can though)

I agree on the mileage Martin and, with so few cars available, I have looked at others  >20k miles that have appealed and shown potential but nothing suitable yet.

The Dove House car also has a replacement service book and no receipts or invoices unfortunately.  Not a deal breaker in itself, but the paint was.  A nice car otherwise and a good buy for someone, just not me.

With 12 specialists now having my details I’m hopeful that I’ll not miss out if a suitable car comes to market again.

I can also vouch for new cars having paint.  I collected a new Mk1 Golf Gti from Germany in 1982 and later discovered a small amount of overspray on the plastic wheel arch trim where it meets the sill.

£2 a can for paint in Poundland – cheap at twice the price! 😆
