MartinF6
On 01/01/2023 at 19:26, Neil_jdmr said: I respect your opinion but generally bad mouthing traders especially porsche traders really has a negative effect on prices. If that guy or any other trader keeps prices high that's only a good thing? No?. Do you really want our models to be driven down in price. This is the only forum I've ever known ( im a member of quite a few) that actually looks at escalated prices as a negative. Firstly, the idea that my post will drive down prices is beyond silly. Secondly, if you respected my opinion, you wouldn't dismiss it as 'bad mouthing'. Shall I take a similar approach to you deem your views on the trader arse licking to my bad mouthing? Would that be respecting your opinion? Yes I absolutely prefer low prices. I buy cars to drive and, generally, the lower the price to get into them the better. Moreover, as prices go up, so does the cost of specialist labour and part. The cost of an air-cooled engine rebuilds has spiralled dramatically in sympathy with the cost of the cars. You can't charge £30-40k for a rebuild for a car worth £15k. You can when it's worth £100k or whatever. The best specialists for air cooled cars now charge a fortune for everything, reflecting the valuations of the cars and the lack of price sensitivity in the customer base. Result? It's now dramatically more expensive to run an air cooled 911 than circa 10 years ago before the prices went potty. I've met numerous people who owned air-cooled 911s who largely stopped using them when the values went into the stratosphere. IMO, values going up spoils these things as cars to actually drive as opposed to garage ornaments and pseudo investments / trophies. The whole car as investment and people being obsessed with values going up is for me the worst aspect of car culture. A real turn off. If 987 Caymans exploded in value and so did the cost of running them, I'd probably have to get rid of mine. I can't afford to run a £150k car and the inflated air-cooled style bills that would come with it. I'd be far happier to see my car halve in value and the cost of running it go down. Sure, I'll lose more money on this one. But buying the next one once I've worn this one out will be half the price and running it will be cheaper! In my view, if people thought more carefully about full implications of prices going up, they'd be at least ambivalent about it. But all they see is what they think are £/$ signs. The reality is more complicated. And it's far from all good news. Especially if you want to actually drive the car. But none of that is the view of this forum, it's clearly just the view of one poster. So where you got that idea from, is far from clear. And it's generally an uncommon view. Most people love the idea of their car going up in value. Edited January 10, 2023 by MartinF6

If it had two years cover, that would be a better and longer warranty than just about any trader, so OK value in that context. When I was buying I'd have considered paying £30k privately for a car like that were the warranty maxed out... Is it still the case that one can extend an existing Porsche warranty without an inspection? Inspection was dropped for cars already under warranty during the pandemic, not sure if that requirement has returned. Certainly if the car needed an inspection to continue the cover, you'd want that done before you bought it!
Alan W
I would certainly be trying to negotiate an extended warranty into the purchase price if the car was of interest to me. Porsche Approved Warranty details and costs
Ummanipadmeum
This seems like a good place for my first post. I've slowly homed in on a 987.2 as an overdue retirement present (don't hate me for being retired, pity me for being old) and I'm hoping to find a well sorted 2.9 manual or PDK which will be reliable as I'm not mad keen on walking. I'm a realist and have owned enough cars to know that they all have their faults but I want to avoid a long list of work required. Higher(ish) mileages are ok imo provided that the previous owners have kept on top of maintenance and the crossover pipes/hoses, water pump, header tank, air/oil separator, AC condensers, brake pads/discs/hoses/pipes/calipers/fluid, tyre, suspension bushes/drop links/topmounts, track rod ends, steering rack, PDK oil, Coil packs/plugs, clutch, aux drive belt, wheels and bodywork (etc.) don't all need doing at once! Maybe a lower mileage car would suit me better.... Is it worth the premium buying from a specialist? Can anyone recommend someone for (preferably mobile) PPI? I think a fair few things in that list are either not much to worry about, as partly consumables (suspension parts + UK roads) but also some are as much age related rather (perishing etc) than mileage, regular use is good for cars. A good history backed up by all the receipts and low owner numbers so all that stuff doesn’t get lost, would be what I’d value. If I was shopping for one again, I’d also want PSE, extended leather and heated seats but hey that’s what impulsively buying does 😂
