oooh. Interesting!

It is very interesting, though i am not convinced by the low screen res, no reverse cam support and most importantly Carplay is not wireless. how can that be?!

could be a disappointment

I'll give one a go... Are they available to buy yet? I was going to buy the Xtrons item...

As aftermarket ones go, there are better options which include correct-style hardware controls:

The official Porsche item looks unimpressive. Low res screen is a real disappointment. As for not having a good sound system in a sports car, think somebody is getting confused with track cars. A good sound system is a great thing to have in a sports car.

I am tempted with this one....

but i'll wait it out and see what reviews are like for the Porsche one. Maybe there is something that can go in its USB slot to then do wireless Carplay with it?

Good luck with that one. It's for a 981.

Apart from reliability concerns, main concern with that one, which looks the best option, is the overly glossy and reflective screen, which isn't ideal for a car installation.

what jars for me is that the dimension on the bottom doesn’t match with the heating panel that sits below it. It’s sits a bit proud.

Ahh I like the physical buttons and knobs on this. I've used Xtrons on several other vehicles and had fantastic UK customer support which pushes me toward them slightly

This is just a tablet with physical controls.  That's why the display is so glossy and reflective.

I got an AA Kenwood unit about 4 years ago (with a reversing camera) and it's without a doubt the best decision I ever made during my ownership.

Looks good! You can add matt screen protectors if you don't like the glossy look.

Bit of a bodgey solution. Far better to have a correct automotive grade screen coating in the first case. I suspect the brightness isn't great for the application, either. Adding a matte layer on top is only going to make that worse.

For the money, it's probably still a decent solution. But I think the poster above is right. It's absolutely not an automotive grade screen. It's a very cheap Android tablet housed in a double-din chassis.

That looks like it is 987.1 only.  Not compatible with 987.2

Even though there is a black surround version? Does that not indicate Gen 2 support too?

Meh... My new cars all have glossy screens..

Plenty of cheap nasty plastic in our 987s should fit in nicely 🤣
