AJS67
Hi, new to the club, so hello everyone. I have an annoying issue with my headlights I have a 2006 987.1 S, which I have owned for a number of years; recently I decided to upgrade the halogen headlights and found I cannot get the headlamp units out. It appears that at some point in its life the headlamp units have not been put back in correctly. The reason I say this is that the release bolt on both units is stuck solid and will not turn and I am concerned I may round the bolt off. I have tried the Porsche issue headlamp removal tool and when that didnt work I used a long reach socket, and there is no movement. I have asked a number of people (dealer/specialist/owners) and drew a blank; i just keep getting told how to remove the headlamp units as if they were not seized. So, any ideas? and have any of you got any shots of the unit removed so I can see the other side of the retaining unit/bolt? Thanks in advance
Woodhouse
Having owned a number of Porsches with this type of headlight securing mechanism, all of them have required a fair amount of torque to release. We currently have two Gen 1 Caymans and every time I remove a headlight, it feels like something is going to break!

Apparently the 781 doesn't have a tool as you need to take the bumper off to change the lamp! Couldn't the top engineers work out how to enable the owner to maintain their own bulbs? Bushman
I concur with Woodhouse, they can be bloody tight, every time I think somethings goin to shear oft. if you can get a helper to get their fingertips and nails behind the edges of the headlamp and wiggle whilst you joggle the removal tool, might just do it. unless the previous has dastardly glued or siliconed the guides, with a pull upwards and forwards, the unit will pop out.. dont be afraid of givin the removal tool some welly, just make sure to keep it pushed in and fully engaged. good luck. Mavrik
Had a similar issue when I got my S... Eventually got them out! I smothered all the guides etc in Copperslip (as I do to all fasteners on any of my cars/bikes) & not an issue now... Julian...
