Am seriously thinking of getting a 987 2.7 as a daily driver.

The boss has been on at me to get down from 3 cars to 2 as I don't do much mileage these days.

I will keep the Boxster as a summer Sunday car and the Cayman will replace the Passat and 944S for the trips to Waitrose, visiting kids and occasional holidays.

Not sure about the timing but early New Year ,lockdown allowing.

The Boxster experience has totally sold me on these cars, just a shame that I had to wait until an OAP to get my hands on super sports cars like the 986 and 987.

I guess that's the price most of us have to pay when a big mortgage, children, dogs etc take precedent .

Will post up some pics when the new 'baby' arrives.

Welcome to the OC 😁

I used to have a Cayman and a Boxster duo, although their roles were reversed, daily driver was the 986.

Let us know how you get on with the search!

Better ‘late’ than never - you’re never too old.... 😉👍🏻

The 2.7 is a pretty smart buy.  More to chose from than the gen 2 but I'd wait a bit as the prices still seem hot to me for anything with moderate miles.

The 2.9 gen 2 prices have really rocketed so smarter money may well be snapping up a 2.7.

I was out walking yesterday and one went by me on a country lane and they do sound great.

Interesting post. I have a 944S2 and a 2.7 987 Cayman. The 944 is off the road at the moment and I bought the 987 as a stop-gap but will probably sell it once the 944 is in operation again.

Why? The is heavier to drive and has a totally different feel on the road but is a more satisfying car to drive and more enjoyable to own. I prefer the looks (the 987 Cayman is pretty but the 944 is significantly prettier) and I get a lot more positive comments from the 944 than from the Cayman - classics are always well-regarded on the road but in the 987 I'm just a 'to55er in a Porsche'.

In short, don't be in a rush to sell your 944. You WILL regret it.

Thanks for the welcome.

I know I am going to regret selling the 944 but I promised the boss I would get down to 2 cars and she doesn't like the 944 (no heated seats in winter and no AC in summer!).

I bought it a few years ago for peanuts and have really enjoyed bringing it back to reasonable shape. They are old school mechanics and easy to work on.

They are now fetching silly money so it's a case of long term storage ( and hope one of the kids/grandkids rescues it) or take the money and run .

You are so right about the 'to55er in a Porsche' label. My next door neighbour has a 911 and every time I used to see him in it that's what I used to think. Now I am about to join him!
