When you discover that your perfect Cayman doesn't exist :(

Previously sold one in March '21 for reference - https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2009-porsche-987-cayman-s-sport-1

Interestingly, they don't seem to have sold a 987.2 Cayman (any model) on CC 🤔

£24k is about the right price. Once you factor in the £1440 selling fee, it's arguably overpriced when you consider that you can get a Black Edition for £27-28k. It depends if there is anyone out there at that time who really wants an orange Cayman. I hope to view it over the weekend.

Not sure why you don't see Gen 2s on CC! Maybe the owners know better ;)

That orange one from March was bought by a lad active on here or PH...can't remember...was a first time Cayman buyer and bid on it and won.

The new one on CC has full leather (nice) but the previous one didn't...but has the rear wiper...

The seller was non-commital on my getting it scoped. TBH, I'm not sure I can blame him since it will sell on there regardless. I called a couple of places that were local to the seller just to see if it was viable and it didn't look like anyone would be able to do it next week anyway. I don't think I could buy a Gen 1 without knowing it was all clear, especially at what will likely be top price. Guess I've got plenty of time to ponder that.

I'm viewing it tomorrow :)

I got a call from a local specialist and went to look at a 981 yesterday. Never really considered it and, stupidly, took my better half since we've got touring plans and I want to ensure she's going to comfortable on long drives. The 14-point seat adjustment went down well; fear she's going to be a little underwhelmed by the Sport! It was nice but I'm pretty sure that I'm still set on a 987, just depends now on a Sport or a G2.

Congratulations!!! well done! A good price I would say given the way the market is now.

I see rather bland, by comparison, 2.9's for around the same price. I reckon you have done very well there.

Thanks :) The car looked stunning when I viewed it and it had clearly been cherished. I did have to go back and submit another max bid beyond what I really wanted to spend; with the fees, I'd say that I probably overpaid by £2k maybe but it's hard to say. I'm pretty good at valuing Caymans now but this one was a complete unknown; the one that went for £24k earlier in the year was sold before the boom. Had been hoping to get it for £26k.

yep, the dial is now reset since the boom so I did expect it to be high twenties. Even if it feels like a £2k overpay, you don't have to keep on searching and can enjoy finding your ideal Cayman, so its worth £2k just to get your headspace back.

I'd be interested to know about the car cover it comes with. If you could feedback on that at some point that would be much appreciated.

Best regards

Julian

Sure, the seller had it custom made and shipped from the US. I'll get the details for you :)

@Julian987h The cover is a Noah Block-It cover by Covercraft. Looks like it is this one: https://www.covercraftoutlet.com/index.php?c=1&i=C16903SG

Hopefully this is a case of better-late-than-never!

Looks like my overpaying has inspired someone to ask a little OTT! I should point out that I factored in ~£1k for the winter wheels and tyres 😁

I only got the car back on Weds as it was an emergency admission and also needed the water pump replacing. Took it to Prescott Hill for the regional Porsche Club GB meet yesterday and took a nice scenic route back; was *so* much more enjoyable than the motorway. Need some more Synergy Premium now though!
