I see you did not take my jesting well, but I don't know why I'm surprised.

It is a pain indeed; my heart breaks for you, Martin.  May you and a future car be united at some point.

Oh, didn't you take my jesting well? Pity.

@MartinF6What happened to your previous 987s and why did you decide to change/sell at the time?

Mileage, for the most part. When you take one from 40k to over 100k, at some point you have to decide if you're running it into the ground, keeping it and doing a rebuild at some point or getting another. One was a Boxster, too, and in the end I prefer Crocs, so that one was a relatively brief 25k mile fling!

Won't do quite as much mileage in future as have in past, but will still be high compared to most of these cars, which is why starting off will lower mileage is desirable. If I start at 70 or 80k, as these cars go the thing will be very high mileage in pretty short order.

Your imitation is flattering.  I'm blushing.  Don't stop.

Have you bought a car yet?

I think at this stage you should buy an R. It’s the only outcome that is going to get you everything you seek.

That white one has no history for the first four years / 35,000 miles. None. First stamp in the book is at four years and 35k miles. Service record is very messy with duplicated stamps across two pages, I have images of the booklet. I called Porsche head office to see if there was anything in the system prior to 35k to see if the history could be tidied up a bit and there's nowt. Rather odd and a pity. Looks quite nice, potentially.

Not sure how big a selling point extended leather is. By way of example, Cridfords don't even bother mentioning it in their ad. They sell a lot of these cars and I'd say they absolutely would sell that option hard in the ad if they thought it made much difference. And that is often the case. Bose and 19 rimz etc usually bigged up, extended leather if present often not even mentioned.

This one below I'd suggest more relevant re pricing. 50k miles, specialist dealer, hasn't shifted for ages. Now reduced to £24k.

Not as nice spec as yours in most regards, though it does have PASM, but it is a specialist dealer car.

Martin, considering you’ve not had much luck, and earlier in the thread you’d mentioned 981s, how about this?

Seen it. Saw it when it was at Camerons. It does look super nice. But ultimately, don't want a 981. They are seductive. But for me they are lovely luxury GTs, a bit too remote. You have to go all the way to GT4 to get a bit of grit. 987s aren't perfect, but just that bit more involving.

have driven 981s quite a bit. They are very, very nice. But I'd regret buying one eventually.

As far as I know Pembury is run by someone who used to work at Ashgood. It's strange how that car has not sold for a long while as other cars which were more expensive have shifted in that time.

If I finally find a GT4 that I like my price will come down swiftly.

I think some of the dealers with the highest profiles / best known / whatever like 911 Virgin can operate at a higher level than lesser known outfits. I think that's reasonable. Some have spent 20-odd years building a presence / reputation.

I don't know anything about Pembury, so I'd be inherently that bit less sure of how they would deal with a major post-purchase problem. And also what level they prep the cars to, I suppose. Might be really good, just don't have any information. There are a few dealers where I'd be pretty sure they'd do the right thing in the event of a major problem, which is what I would personally be paying the premium for, and where I'd also expect pretty high levels of prep.

Long story short, would think that exact same car at 911V priced £3k higher would probably be long gone by now.

Do 911V list their cars on Autotrader? I never seem to see them on the site at all

Just PH I think. Not sure they advertise everything they have on PH. Think most of their higher end stuff sells straight from their own website or even before it's listed anywhere.

For lowly 987 Caymans, they prob need to stick it on PH.

Amazed it only got to £20,500. Unsold. Wonder why? maybe just not enough awareness on the listing.

I would have guessed it would bid to £22k due to BE factor. But to be honest, not totally amazed. It's a private sale, it's 74k miles and we saw a 30-something K mile car only bid to £19k, albeit modified.

Lack of awareness up to a point, but if you look at all the 987 auctions on CCs it's not a shocking result. Plus, the trade won't miss a trick, so that tells you what the trade were willing to pay for it.

From what I can see it's not easy to get top money selling one of these cars privately. CC probably isn't the place to do it.
