Newbie here, are all cars crap from BCA? I thought some dealer use BCA and other sources for their stock and pass on part exchanges through in UK? Which cars are you referring to they sold and what was wrong with them?

The point is that you cannot view the car at all before buying from BCA, they do not allow pre-auction viewing any longer. You have no reliable way of telling how good the car is before you bid on it. Probably fine for a generic dealer buying nearly new mainstream stock. But a surprising MO for a specialist trader, I'd argue.

Sure, one could argue that you take a punt and if it's no good, punt it on. But the odds of a very good example of something like a 10-plus year old Cayman turning up at a BCA auction are pretty slim. So, I personally think it's an odd way of going about things.

This looks a nice car,

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208018353928?advertising-location=at_cars&postcode=Ne233yx&model=Cayman&page=7&aggregatedTrim=987 S&make=Porsche&year-to=2022&include-delivery-option=on&sort=relevance&percentVehiclePriceDeposit=true

Too low on spec personally with no chrono/pse/pasm but certainly a nice looking 987 and well priced imo.

Here's a similar Cayman S Sport for £10k less:

Awesome 😂

Why is it one of only 69 produced? Is it the colour combo or something?

I guess the dealer must have saw something special in this 987.1 to have bought it to sell.

There's not such a thing as 69 produced.

This is how marketing works: make 100000 of the same car, then take 69 of them (literally the same piece of metal) and name them 1 of 69. Then let the fools fall for it.....🤪

Those Sport Editions have literally nothing more than a standard car. Yes some might have an alcantara trim or all the toys from factory, but so did my "normal" Gen1 S back in the days.

Who ever took those pictures of the '69' car needs to step away from their iPhone and learn how to hold a camera straight, then find a better location to take pictures that doesn't look like they've chosen to sell the car after running out of talent and nearly sticking it in the hedge row......

Sorry Andy but for ONLY £35K what did you expect?? Good photos?! 😝

I'm assuming that silver Sport must be SoR. The same dealer has this other Sport:

That's been for sale forever, it was up at £35k and not selling, now £31k and not selling. So, putting another Sport up at £35k is a bit odd! Even if it is SoR and the owner is insisting on the silly valuation, seems like a waste of time for everyone involved.

You're right. They're very little difference between an S and a Sport. Unless you like the look; the script decals, the Sport Design wheels and don't want to modify your car. Or want either of the exclusive GT3 colours. Otherwise there is no reason to buy a Sport.

You've made an assumption that people buy them simply because they are limited but you seem like the kind of person who makes a lot of assumptions 👍

Here's another assumption: you feel touched on a personal level because you own one!  But hey it's only an assumption.

Now tell me how does it feel to pay a premium for a couple of decals than anyone else can buy for a tenner? 😊

Anyway here's a little background about on where my assuptions come from: 15 years of experience of working in the automotive, products like limited editions cars is literally it's what I do on a daily basis.

It's called POR. Profit On Return. Which on a Sport Edition is high because the "premium" content doesn't match the premium price.

I paid a premium for a car in a look and colour that no other Cayman comes close to touching (subjective opinion there). There is nothing more to it. It doesn't need a metal badge on the glovebox, 4 extra hp or an alcantara steering wheel to tick my boxes. It's a head-turner. It makes me smile. That I could sell it with one phone call for what I paid is largely irrelevant.

No further education required.
