Looking to buy a 987.2 3.4S

Recommended Posts

Just signed up here and I’m just getting to grips with the forum.

I sold my Caterham today and would love to replace it with a 987.2 R, but alas my funds will not stretch that far. So I’m on the look out for a 987.2 S 3.4 2010/11 approx 50k miles, with as many options as possible. Ideally I’d like a manual but for the right car will accept a Pdk with paddles. Not a fan of red or black (no offence intended).

I live very close to brands so intend taking it there a few times a year.

If you see any come up other than the usual Auto trader, PH’s, gumtree etc, please let my know, I’m searching the specialist sales sites but can’t be sure I’ll see everything.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Thanks for the reply, it does looks very nice indeed, afraid my budget will not stretch that far (I should have stated around £23k).

For just shy of £30k I'd prefer the R badge, I think the residual value will be stronger in the long run.

save yourself some money and get a good gen 1S without the bore scoring. A  gen1 car can be scoped for £60~ by any Porsche Specialist which will rule out bore scoring, the IMS failure is very rare (5%) most have already died and is very easy to identify when listening to the car too.

Even if you were to be super unlucky, you could have your engine specialist/hartech rebuilt with the difference of money you are saving!

just my 2pence

Does look pretty tidy, reasonable price also.

Its a Scottish car, so have a good look under it for rusty fixings, as they have to put a lot of salt on the roads up there, check all the exhaust brackets especially as they may need replacing.

I'd want to know if its had a clutch, as by that age mileage it should have.

Agreed, well worth a closer look. Bear in mind, depending on driving style etc, clutch life seems to vary materially across cars

That service history would have me worried. The price is towards the top end for a private sale, so I'd be looking for something more complete.

Cheers,

A really nice Aqua Blue 987.2S sold last weekend on AutoTrader. Manual with 53k miles and had Carnewal exhaust mod. It was listed for a few days and I was his first serious enquiry and was sorting a PPI on it when a nice R turned up (which I bought).

I'd noticed it disappeared from AT listings so got back in contact with seller last night. He'd had 5 enquires and solid it for £21,500.  So that's a good indicator of price for nice Gen 2S manual private sale in an interesting color

It was listed at £22k and he gave the buyer £400 off as it was due new rear tyres.

It had the sports seats and had been under Porsche warranty all its life. Carnewal exhaust mod attracted me as I'd prefer it to PSE.  It was definitely on for a few days before I got in contact and must have taken nearly two weeks to actually sell.

Real straight up seller and the weekend after my initial contact he had 5 people after it and first to view bought it.

Yes, that's it.

I personally don't rate PASM as one settings too soft and ones too hard for our roads in Nth Ireland where I live anyway.

Also, Chrono can be added later in software for about £700 and you avoid the dash 'wart' that no one uses anyway.  I've got my R booked into OPC for it. Chrono changes throttle map and also PSM (allows greater slip angle before kicking in). It's just a new switch and software unlock code 😆

Not sure you should be 'hung up' on PASM, there are so many after market ways to tune the suspension to your taste with the help of a good specialist.

PASM systems are also more expensive to refresh too.
