Gulp: £300+ for cracked fog light glass

Recommended Posts

I picked up a cracked driver's side fog light (still works), on the track at Donington Park a few weeks ago. Just got the quote from RSJ Sports cars to fix:  £185.06 +vat and one hour labour at £80 +vat.  So over £300 for a bit of cracked glass - OMG

Big shock. I guess I have to say to myself, welcome to Porsche-land! 😅

No wonder you guys like doing your own maintenance.

Buy one from ebay and fit it yourself. It takes no more than 10 minutes to replace the fog light but obviously a garage will need to charge for an hour

Right hand side (Off side / passenger) appear to be plentiful and cheap - £90

upwards new.

The drivers side appears to be uncommon and expensive !

Unless this is the whole fog light for the drivers side:

In which case - after an email to the seller to check - I’d snap it up !

Good luck to the OP.

Eddie1996 has a Gen2, I can also vouch for the fact they are £200 each.

Also very rare on the used market.

They are pretty easy to fit though. The plastic surround unclips, 2 screws to undo, unplug and it's out.

I covered both mine in some 3M PPF, got a little sheet off eBay, hopefully might stop it happening again.

Thanks very much for comments & advice. Apologies for being slow to respond, I forgot to follow my own topic. Fitting oneself does sound the way to go - thanks again for the pointers.

Naturally it is the expensive driver's side lamp!

Be aware there are 2 different types for the gen 2.

Normal halogen bulb units and something snazzy (possibly part of the PDLS option?).

I had to replace the passenger side (normal halogen) one a couple of months ago at full price from OPC (minus 10% Porsche club discount - just say you’re a member and give any 6 random numbers if asked for membership details).

the cheap ones I kept finding on eBay were all the other type strangely.

oh and obviously gen 1 and gen 2 fog lights are different too.

🤷‍♂️
