Climate Control: switch bulbs ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys n gals.

The Light / bulb (LED ?) on the heated rear screen switch has died. Screen de-misting function still works perfectly.

I’ve not seen individual switches for sale anywhere. Complete new fascia units seem like unobtanium. And scabby ones on eBay are making £200+

Anyone shed any light 🙄 on the bulb type, if they are replaceable, a specialist who I could send the unit / switch to for repair; or anything else to help light up my life once more….

Cheers.

**Also: Is the heating function on a timer and automatically shuts off ? At the moment apart from the barely perceptible click of a relay - i can’t tell if it’s on or off 🙄

About to email them. Thanks very much for the suggestion….

Hmmm. Just seen they are in Poland 😳 And appear to paint your existing lower function buttons only - which always flake / peel on these cars. And which you can buy for £50 odd new these days….

I’ll do some research and see if someone local can craft in a new LED to the demister switch.

**My climate fascia and all control buttons are immaculate. I literally need a new 10p bulb. And whatever it takes to achieve that of course…

Disassemble the unit and replace it with a suitable LED?  They're usually just clips and screws when it comes to disassembly.

Absolutely. Plenty of vids on YouTube for taking apart in reference to replacing the two switches that always wear.

Was looking for any further info on the bulbs / switch etc so I could attempt to be pre-armed with parts.

Looks like it’s in we go !

Indeed, but considering they are fiddling with them, they will highly likely be able to know of the part and send you it or direct you on the part number. Have you tried Rose Passion or even Porsche themselves?

They are only re-furbing two non related - and unlit with LED - buttons from what I can see / read on their website. And they ask that these alone are posted to them. So their involvement in anything else climate control fascia related appears to be nothing at face value. But I’ll email just in case…

Only found out about this issue this morning. So it’s on the radar to ring a dealer as soon as soon as the Bank Hol is over..

Thanks again.

I haven't used them myself Syer but these people seem to get good reviews for repairing instrument clusters and so on :

https://cartronix.co.uk/

Would be interesting to know how you get on with this as I'm sure it will be an issue for a lot of us at some point!!

Thats awesome info Ben. These look like the people I (we !) need.

Second hand fascia’s making upward of £300. I’m imagining new could be double that easily. Quite steep for a ‘bulb’ in my case.

It’s just so annoying. Everyone I’ve asked so far has said they would live with it. That’s not me…

Ive just emailed with pics of car and climate fascia. And also the most interesting info I’ve found out so far.

Feeling hopeful - Thankyou.

The illumination for the instrument cluster is the same, so that seems logical.  It would be better to buy a set of SMD LEDs and change the lot.  Simple desolder and resolder job.

Thanks Aaron. The place Ben suggested ‘Only does instrument clusters’ they’ve said 🙄 But I’m sure I can find somewhere local.

Is this the kind of thing I’m looking for ?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232382648580

I linked specifically to these ones because they come in different voltages; and I’m imagining with the wiring already attached - they could be swapped with originals… or perhaps installed using the original connections and ‘piggy backed’ ontop - if a straight swap looks difficult / the size isn’t the same etc etc.

As opposed to the type below for example - where I’m imagining I’d perhaps need to replicate exact size, shape etc to marry up connections ?

Cheers.

Your best would be to get at the PCB first then measure the SMD size required.  They come in all shapes and sizes.

You want SMDs like your second link - and to solder the LEDs directly to the PCB.
