mrobbie
I was initially set on a Boxster but after some unsuccessful hunting I've found myself now also looking at Caymans. Its to Robbie my first "weekend toy" as I have a 530d Touring for the family wagon. I have a cash budget of £14k and ready to buy now if anyone knows of any going. Must be manual. Options I am flexible with. I am guessing this sort of money gets me into a 2.7 from 2006-08?
Andy
I would suggest you will be looking at the 987.1 with a £14k budget, and that will be either a 2.7 Cayman or 3.4 Cayman S. Just a quick looking on Autotrader brings up quite a few, although some are fairly high mileage.

I saved more to go for the 987.2 for that reason but there is a significant jump in cost. for a modern car, so long as its had correct servicing 70k should not be a big issue. I I were to go for one at that age id pay for an independent check.
Equinox
Mine is a 2.7, was just over £14k with sub 60k miles so they are about. I would second the independent check though. I didn't for this one I looked at and it all seemed in check but it did bite me later on in routine repairs/replacement parts. If your handy with a spanner however these costs are drastically reduced.
Founder Popular Post Beanoir™ Posted November 16, 2016 Founder Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2016 All of the earliest cars were 3.4 and they tend to be the cheapest. You can get yourself into a gen1 Cayman S with less than 60k miles for about £16k for a half decent car. It is entry level though so just make sure you check them over well and as suggested above get yourself an independent inspection done by a Porsche specialist.
mrobbie
There is a very basic spec 987 2.7 on autotrader- what appears to be no factory options, even down to the 17" wheels and part leather seats... something about it has caught my eye though. It just looks like a pure drivers car. Almost retro for some reason. Going to to be a fun weekend of hunting I think

magic8080
Take you time. I drove several 987 S before going for a 981 base. Try and get the youngest you can afford. Autotrader is to good gauge what's on the market but it probably pays to go to a independent specialist if you can. I'd go for a 2.7 something like http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201610128694548?sort=price-desc&body-type=Coupe&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&postcode=pe11ba&radius=1500&price-to=14000&advertising-location=at_cars&make=PORSCHE&model=CAYMAN&page=1
mrobbie
Thanks yes I had been looking for 07-on 2.7 cars as they seem to be safest bets for the IMS from what I read? The silver one I put an image of above is around 20 miles from me http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201610128698808 there is a specialist near me also with an 08'car and similar miles but it's £16k Edited November 17, 2016 by mrobbie

HPI. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!
