Aaron
Hi all I've recently fitted an IPD plenum and GT3 TB to my CR. I'm looking to finish the car off with a map. However, the only option I've seen for a live map is Chipwizards and Wayne has refused to give me a price (or price range for that matter) so I'm not considering that an option. The other option I'm aware of is Softronic but I'm not a huge fan of remote mapping as the tuner can't push the car to its optimal limit... Any other suggestions? Kai
Hi there I've done the above plus race filter, desnork and exhaust system minus 2 cats. Still need to do the manifolds then it will be remap time. Obly readon I mention mine is that you haven't said if your exhaust is done yet. I'd recommend you do the exhaust first, then mapping as you'll only have to do it again when you uprated the exhaust system. Kai
PorscheGT4
You really need a manifold to see the gains in the gen 2 cars. there are NO cats in the exhaust, but 4 in the Manifolds in gen 2. also might be worth a vflow system you are pusing air in, but due to the cats cannot get air out, the oem TB flows enough air already for 380bhp ! Aaron
Hi both Yes, I'm aware of the four cats in the manifold on a 987.2. I have no interest in modifying the exhaust as I hate drone. I've already had the car on the rollers with a 10 WHP gain (I'd never spend £1100 on parts and not £80 on two power runs). It's just a case of where to go for a live map but Softronic are looking like my only option. I've been modding cars for years, I know the best practices. But thank you for your input, nonetheless. Administrators Forum Admin Posted June 1, 2017 Administrators Share Posted June 1, 2017 Be interesting to see what you end up with following a tune. I have to say, any decent Porsche tuner worth their salt will certainly recommend changing the exhaust on these cars before mapping particularly if you've spent all that money on the inlet side, if they don't they just want your cash. Which exhausts have you tried that drone?
Aaron
I concur on the exhaust side of things as I've already stated. The issue is that this car is my daily and cannot be noisy or have any drone. I ran a 3.5" system with a tiny resonator on my RX-7 and it was a blissful on the weekends. But there's no way I could tolerate that noise everyday. It would just get irritating. I haven't tried any exhausts on the car and don't have any plans to. Yes, it's untapped power; yes, I should maximise the gains from all of the work but not at the cost of a louder exhaust. The plenum and TB already increased exhaust noise and it's pretty much at my limit. All of my engine mods are complete, I'm ready for the map and many fun years ahead. My issue right now is whom I go to for said map...
Founder Beanoir™ Posted June 2, 2017 Founder Share Posted June 2, 2017 I wouldn't bother having it mapped personally
Aaron
That's an extremely valid point! The car does drive perfectly fine. I'll mull it over.
CliveH
have a word with MRC Tuning in Banbury. Although they specialise predominantly in Audi/VW, they have mapped a lot of Porsches too including one of the owner's 911 turbo
Kai
Don't know where in the country you are but I do know DMS are well respected in the Porsche tuning world and think they are at Thruxton- down South near Salisbury. Maybe check their website? Kai
Aaron
Hi Kai I got in touch with DMS per your recommendation and they've been a good bunch. I've booked the car in for the 8th July for a map. Results are allegedly going to be 377 with a print out to prove it. I'm speculative but we'll see.
PorscheGT4
lol the last guy who went DMS got 5Bhp ! their dyno is a joke. you cannot get over 335BHP on a tune not with stock manifolds !
Aaron
Source? I would like to see opposing data.
Aaron
Just did a good amount of research on DMS and I'm pulling the plug on that endeavour.
Kai
Sorry dude - just a suggestion as I saw their ad in EVO magazine. Never used them either. Kai
briggy
As mentioned previously, speak to MRC in Banbury. They turn an Audi RS4 into what it should have been when it left the factory. Don't expect big gains in BHP though. Remember that BHP is just a mathematical function of torque and RPM. To give one example on the RS4, their Stage 2 map removes the torque limiter in the first 3 gears, so you get maximum acceleration. They even list the Cayman as one of the models they have a map for. Got to be worth a chat. http://www.mrctuning.com/index.php/remapping/ Cheers, Bryan
Aaron
HP = (RPM * torque) / 5252. I'm well aware. Horsepower is horsepower. It's an accurate measurement of how fast something can do work. The device and individual performing the measurement, however, is always the question. I've done my research on MRC but have come up short. You would think these places that deal with high-end sports cars would be reputable but I find it's just not the case. Pity. Alas, I've made enquiries with my local exhaust specialist to see what can be done about the two cats. We've agreed a swap to stock if it's too loud. I can see Softronic getting my remap investment in the future. Thanks for your input, gents.
crafty1
Hi Aaron, might be worth a chat with Gert at Carnewal, a lot of people including me have is exhaust on their cars and it has no drone whatsoever. He mentioned to me that his exchange manifolds will 200 cell cats offer 10hp improvement over stock, we didn't discuss drone with those though, he is very approachable and having met him and chatted at length I'd trust what he has to say regarding what can and cannot be achieved. Aaron
I've checked out Gert's website but haven't actually had a conversation with him directly. I'm sure it's an avenue worth exploring, as he is reputable as you stated. Thank you.
Founder Beanoir™ Posted June 14, 2017 Founder Share Posted June 14, 2017 I've got my stock Cayman R exhausts for sale as I had a new pair converted by Carnewal and kept the old ones in case I ever wanted to swap back - needless to say his exhausts are very good and as said above don't drone at all, they also make car rev slightly more freely too I found. Worth noting the CR exhausts are different to the CS exhaust (larger bore) and so you'd either need to have yours converted or do what I did and have Gert convert a brand new pair. He doesn't do the CR as an exchange.
