Popular Post Malcolm E Cay
Hello from Sunny Manchester. This is not my first Porsche but defo my first 718. Some of my recent Porsche history is below including pics of all three Boxsters we have owned. So this was our first Boxster. We had a BMW Z3 before, but after I nearly killed us trying to overtake (it was only a 1.9) we had to change into something quicker. We looked at several Z4s until we saw the blue 986 and it was love at first sight. We took it to Italy twice and it didn't miss a beat but age was starting to catch up with it. In short order it had all four tuning forks and coffin arms, discs and pads all round, a clutch including DMF and the indicator stalks. So although it was well looked after and with so many new things I was waiting for the next thing to go and replacing four new tyres was the final straw. We found a superb Speed Yellow 987 with many toys including Bose surround sound. Here is a pic of the two together when we picked it up Now, this really was a car. A huge improvement over the blue one. It had only done 24000 miles when we bought it, everything was tight and still felt new. I wish I had a £ for every "nice car, mister" I got when in it or near it. The looks we got and the thumbs up we got were to numerous to remember. We went to Italy once and Spain twice in it, and again, it never missed a beat. Other than servicing and brake pads I never had to spend a penny on it. Totally reliable up until a girl drove into it in a car park and bent the rear bumper. A new bumper and a reversing sensor later it was perfect again, but when Mrs Cay decided she knew better than the lady helper beepers and reversed into a concrete post I knew it was time to change again. After a flawless repair we went Boxster hunting but found none that we liked. So in a moment of madness/stupidity we bought a BMW 330i E93 convertible. Of course it is a totally different beast to the Boxster. Very fast, very comfortable but rather soulless. The death knell for the BMW arrived not long after we bought it when the roof got stuck down during a rain storm in the South of France. Then the BMW dealer in Barcelona tried to rip us off, claiming I needed £3000 of work to fix it. £120 and two ABS sensors later it was fixed. This compounded the mistake we made by buying it. We should have been less hasty and looked around some more. But you live and learn. Here is the BMW in Casino Square Monaco the day after the F1 race in 2016. Ultimately Mrs Cay and I are "Porsche People" and as much as liked the BMW it ain't no Boxster. And that is why we splashed out on the 981. The 981 feels so much more "grown up" than the others. I suppose it is just technology moving on, The fit and finish and the attention to detail has moved on so much over the years. They are all unmistakeably "Porsche". The noise, the handling, the seating position, the ignition switch in the dashboard, the DNA is all there. And if ever you are in the market to buy a Porsche you could do a lot worse than the OPC in Leeds. They really were superb. A pic of the BMW and the new Boxster together And the 981 on the drive But the Boxster has gone and has been replace by a Miami Blue 718 Cayman. We drove the Cayman and it was love at first sight, Dunno how I will cope without having the roof down when we are driving in Italy during the Summer but we will find out. Anyway, obligatory pics. and hopefully I will be allowed to hang around here. And with it's predecessor Thanks for reading my drivel. PMGPete
I enjoyed that great story. I was a massive BMW fanatic myself but haven't really driven my E92 M3 since purchasing my speed yellow 987 cayman. Love Miami Blue it looks excellent
DJMC
Porsche GB have loaned me a 320d while my 981 is being looked at (all sorted now) and after 10 BMWs over 32 years I have to say it is a pile of poo. About as far away from a driver's car as you could get. My favourite was my E46 330ci Sport convertible. Had that for 9 years. They lost the plot after the E46 era. You'll get used to a roof again, don't worry!
mr pg
Lookout for an agate grey 981 CS in Italy in the summer, as that's where we'll be. A (any) Cayman makes a great tourer.

Also this is a PDK and not a manual, but it is much easier to drive fast, not so much revs needed and the acceleration is is much smoother as well as having more of it. Does seems to grip the road better though and the steering is much more responsive.
