Windymiller
Anybody know if the front and rear pad retaining ‘W’ spring clip and barrel pin are the same for front and rear callipers? i need to change my rear pads and want to fit new accessory spring-clip and pins, but CP4L and ECP only list front kits. 🤷♂️ I know I could potentially just reuse the existing ones, but from experience, at 10years old and 60k Miles these are likely to be corroded and shabby and I’d prefer to fit new. Thanks in advance
Mavrik
Got a feeling they may be different front to rear as the calipers are larger on the fronts... Pretty sure the calipers are the same from gen1 to 2... design911 list front & rear for different prices. https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod5010/Brake-Pad-Pin-Kit---Rear-Porsche-955-Cayenne-95535296000/ https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod142529/Brake-pad-pin-kit-Porsche-996---997---Boxster-986---Boxster-987---Boxster-981---Cayman-987C---Cayman-981/ Edited July 18, 2020 by Mavrik
Windymiller
Thanks Mavrik - I had looked at D911, was just hoping they might be ‘interchangeable’. Obviously with D911 there’s +VAT & P&P. worked out prices for pads, vibration shims, spring clip kits and sensors at: CP4L - £109 D911 - £137 ECP - £157 but only D911 actually list the specific rear callipers spring clip kits... 🤔 Edited July 18, 2020 by Windymiller Typo
Mavrik
However, Paragon suggest they are the same?? I'd buy from ECP or CP4L enough front clip/pin sets for front/rear & just take them back if they don't fit?? Mavrik
@Windymiller Yours is a gen2 ? Not PCCB? Pretty sure the gen1 & 2 are same brakes See what Paragon say: https://www.paragon-products.com/Porsche-Brake-pad-retaining-kit-p/pp-996.352.959.01.htm

Mavrik
A quick search throws up a few sites that list front & rear differently! I'd just buy from ECP... If they don't fit no biggy taking them back?
Mavrik
I had a similar issue recently when I replaced my caliper to flexi hose hardlines... Listings were not clear & the prices all over the show!! I ended up buying a flaring/kunifer kit to make my own lines for a 1/4 the price 😉
Windymiller
Can anyone with a 2010 or later gen 2 S check their rear pads please and tell me if they have them with or without the ‘balance weight ‘ears’’ - see photo for 2 types options. current ones fitted to mine don’t have the weights and that’s what the textar brake catalogue indicates is correct (Ie pt no 2179203). But the CP4L product image shows them with the weights (ie pt no 2454101)... 🤔 theres 0.3mm difference in the length dimensions, but also they take different of wear sensors (pin vs horseshoe). CP4L customer service for parts enquiries seems non-existent due to covid 🤨 Edited July 18, 2020 by Windymiller

briggy
Pretty sure they're the one without the ears. Mine's 2010 S and I fitted part number 98635293910 from Design 911. Their picture online shows them without ears. Below should be a couple of pics, but with the wheel still on. Cheers, Bryan
Windymiller
@briggy - thanks so much. That’s confirmed it then, marvellous. Perhaps the image on CP4L is just ‘representative’, not actual 🤔🤷♂️👍🏻
Windymiller
So the textar of that CP4L proposes when you search for a 2010 gen 2 CS (or by reg) is the wrong pad (pt no 101330306) - this is the version with ‘ears’, which I’m assuming might be for a gen 1 🤔🤷♂️ The correct pt no is 101330176. I know this cos I dug out my CP4L receipt from buying new rear pads last year. This variant are cheaper. so I’ve just ordered pads, retaining spring clips, 4x dampening discs and 2x sensors for £104 delivered to my door within the week. Marvellous 👍🏻
