Think I'll def do a PPI whatever I buy but what about tyres? If not Porsche approved tyres fitted would that be a red flag? The one I'm looking at has had a new clutch, discs and brake lines but nothing else by the looks of it. Advice appreciated. Matt new clutch, discs and brake lines is a good start. Check if it was clutch and flywheel or just clutch (flywheels are expensive for gen 2's). At 79k miles there's a good chance the coolant pipes have been done. Any evidence of some suspension component refresh. Don't worry about the N rated tyre bollox. What tyres are on it? 3 owners so how long has this guy had it? receipts? They're generally older designs now so many people like to use a more modern tyre. Budget or even mid range tyres would be a big red flag for me though. I certainly did Julian – now in talks with the guy. It’s got Michelin pilot sport 4s on it. It’s not had the coolant lines replaced yet so a potential watch out? Really like the colour though, it’s a dark to mid grey. Think I’m gonna get a PPI done on it and then hopefully job will be a goodun! I need to get up there to view it next......only a four hour drive...

It is a very nice colour indeed. I think judging by the pics it is Meteor Grey, like this example.... Everyones got PS4S's apart from me it seems There is a thread here on the coolant lines, seems like it was only a few hundred, so not earth shattering. Remember the black grill accents for it, the side decal and make it like this! Windymiller
Front crossover coolant pipes and hoses should cost you no more than £600 from a good Indy. Often it necessitates dropping the front sub frame though, which then requires a re-geo alignment, which adds to the cost. some folks have been able to get the hoses etc changed with the sub frame in situ, but the job takes longer (costing more in labour) - so a 6 and two 3s potentially... 🤷♂️ Edited May 22, 2021 by Windymiller

Stumac62
Hi Matt. Any news on the potential purchase? Hope you have got a deal done. I'm doing similar at the moment, after a gen 2. I haven't been quick enough though on a few. Just missed out on a 14,000 miles, 2.9, grey one at Cridfords. Only advertised for a couple of days. I need to stop dithering and get a deposit down on the next one! Edited May 24, 2021 by Stumac62

Stumac62
Hi Julian. My budget is around 26k. Thanks. Is it common practice to get a PPI (is that the 111 point check?) even when purchasing from an independent Porsche dealer? Thanks, Stu. Matt_Chaps
Hey Stu, I’m going for the grey 3.4 S mentioned above and have an agreement in with the seller pending a PPI. So hopefully! I feel you pain though, have been looking for 3 months and kept missing out too. But don’t rush yourself is my advice – and I’m still keeping an eye out anyway just in case. I think you could probs negotiate on a 2.9 too as they don’t seem to go as quickly as the 3.4. There’s a white one for sale at Mole Valley that I drove a few weeks back and was great. Colour just not for me! Think it’s still for sale and reckon you could get them down. Matt

It's not necessarily to find out if the cars a shed but gives you a hit list of what might need doing soon. In the current market, it also buys you a bit of time too as it's accepted that a deposit pending a PPI shows you're serious about the car.. It's a PDK, not sure if you're set on a manual or not: https://www.cotswoldspecialists.co.uk/for-sale-porsche-cayman-987-gen2-pdk-low-mileage-23995/ Regarding a PPI, I think you should be okay without one if buying from a long standing reputable indy. They should do all the necessary prep work, and you can always take it back if something's not right. Others may have differing opinions. I believe the above is a very good indy, I have not used them but have heard very good things from a serial porsche owner that I trust, and the google reviews are overwhelmigly excellent.
