Popular Post sevenfourate
After some deliberation and pondering [About the drop / subtle "stance" i was hoping to achieve, performance VS looks argument etc] - i've now taken the plunge and purchased some Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs (30mm drop front and 25mm rear): And I ended up going for 15mm rear spacers / 7mm front in the final event (After changing my mind numerous times): and longer bolts all around to suit of course: Have hedged my bets / will replace as a matter of course while 'in there'; new Sachs HD top mounts: And for good measure; have procured 4 x genuine Porsche drop links as the old ones are likely to need some grinder action in order to remove ! The pile-o-bits to fit in the New Year is getting too big to hide behind the sofa for much longer....🙄 Have a fab weekend all. Tozerman
Purely preventative maintenance Syer. No issues I know of 🤞 Although my RMS/IMS is leaking more than I'd like to be honest so will definitely get those done in the spring when it is back on the road again. I hope you and yours have a great festive holiday. Stay safe 👍
Popular Post sevenfourate
So my Eibach Springs arrived; after a bit of a wait due to a very slow despatch; and moreso the Eibach factory being slowed down by COVID19-related Staff shortages. I got them £25 cheaper than anywhere else i could find though. I guess cheap with efficient service dont go hand-in-hand 🤣 And although eye-wateringly expensive for 4 top mounts i thought (£335+): in the end i purchased 2 x Meyle Front top mounts complete with bearings; and 2 x Genuine Porsche Rear Top mounts. Do it once - do it properly for quite a labour intensive task and all that..... And whilst i was making an order from Design911 - and for the sake of 15 minutes work per side: and not much cost [Less than £10 inc VAT !].....i purchased a pair of larger than standard / increased cooling: 997 GT3 Front brake Air scoop / ducts: I also bought some pre-cut clear protection tape for the inside rear arches from ebay; for anyone interested: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-Boxster-Cayman-987-C-CLEAR-ARCH-EDGE-Stone-Chip-Paint-Protection-Films/393050168589?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 So next purchase i've been hankering after for some time is an exhaust. In a perfect World i'd love a Remus. The sound is incredible imo. But i can't get my head around a near £1700 system on a £13k car 🙄 So - Perhaps a Top Gear Stainless @ £600; which from Googling have apparently been known to have very slight fitment issues [Nothing i can't sort at work; with all the gear to do so if it needs a bend / tweak / heat etc] - but i think sounds awesome ! Or as the link below: a "Eurocup GT" System from Porscheshop at £750....which looks the very same system / design to me [***And i believe there is a 'master patent / license' out there somehwere - where these systems are made in Korea (?) and then licensed to sell by TopGear, DesignTek etc etc etc EuroCup GT High Flow exhaust System from Porscheshop *****Or please - other thoughts welcomed on any other sensibly priced 987 exhausts ???***** PARTS ACCUMULATED AND YET TO FIT - AND I CAN'T BLOODY WAIT ! : GT3 Smile Vent in matt Black Headlight surround decals in matt Black Fog light Spars in matt Black 2 x new handbrake cables Eibach lowering Springs 2 x 7mm spacers + longer bolts for front axle 2 x 15mm Hubcentrric spacers and longer bolts for rear axle 4 x new genuine Porsche droplinks 2 x Meyle front top-mounts and bearings 2 x new genuine Porsche rear top-mounts 2 x new roof seals **Exhaust ??? Happy New Year to everyone. Stay safe; and here's to a few meets in 2021......fingers-crossed 👌 Edited December 31, 2020 by sevenfourate

My mechanic ordered a set for a friend of mine. He said the paint wasn't awesome in those areas; but the protection strips still took really well........ Founder Beanoir™ Posted December 30, 2020 Founder Share Posted December 30, 2020 Wow! What a nice bunch of goodies! I know the 996 crowd really rate the Top Gear exhausts, a friend of mine has one too. Exceptionally well made, particularly given the price point.

Mechanicals / paint sorted last year. Now we modify ! Nice to hear the comments on the TopGear exhausts. "They" do seem to divide opinion. Most (Near all ?) bashing being borne from folks who don't have one. Those who have voted with their own feet and wallets being extremely happy 😎 Not sure if anyone can see this thread from Facebook today in which i asked about TopGear and theLliang Fei / Tiawanese tie-up - with DesignTek, Soul, TopGear, EuroCup systems all sharing the same basic design / structure. Certainly a hot-topic of debate....... https://www.facebook.com/groups/351201258590173/permalink/1324103234633299/?comment_id=1324213241288965&reply_comment_id=1324286444614978 Edited December 30, 2020 by sevenfourate
Tozerman
Wow that is some list of parts 😁 Keen to see how you get on with the fitting etc and to see how it looks after 👍 £335 for a set of top mounts and bearings seems excessive to me 🤔 Fairly sure you can get sachs top mounts for less than £50 a pop..

Ha ! Hi Tony. The state of behind the sofa is testament to the 'pile o parts' 😏 Yes - Sachs were originally my first port of call and looked / reports of were good. However: They are not £50 with the bearings i don't think (?) I read many advert small-print where the bearing wasn't included - despite what the pictures showed.......and that aside; to some degree in the end (Knowing the amount of labour involved to replace in "18 months" if one fails) - i decided to go with absolutely known parts. A pair (Kit) of front Meyle top mounts with bearings was £123.50+ VAT from Design911.....and Genuine rears were £153 the pair + VAT from same. Add in £5 part-postage and thats £335. Combined; that was as cheap as i could find........ But agreed it's a pretty horrific price on paper. 'Cheaper' top mounts could have been had for around £80-90 the pair on the front; and 2 x Febi rears; for around £105 all in. So perhaps £210-odd for all 4 delivered. So effectively a little over £120 difference between perhaps 'ok quality' and hopefully top notch replacements. Seeing as my lowering springs fitting will effectively cover most of the labour costs needed to fit the top-mounts too - i thought i'd splurge on hopefully the best available. Its not just the cost of the replacement in future if one fails prematurely - its the inconvenience of losing the car, possible days off work blah blah. Hopefully that won't be the case now. ****** -4 outside here this Morning. No tinkering in the garage here today !!!

Need to decide what flavour exhaust i'm going for as yet and just commit to it ! Sent out a few feelers about having a custom system made locally in the last couple of days. Only downside to that is not knowing exactly how it will sound. Seeing vids / hearing other cars with known systems gives you a fair idea of course..... Think i'm going to book in to get everything fitted 1st March or Maybe 1st April depending on how weather goes....and re-tax at that point too. Happy New Year 🙂
Popular Post sevenfourate
Happy New Year.....To me. TopGear Stainless Catback exhaust ordered this am. I also found a really interesting article on Cayman exhaust 'drone' / cabin resonance last night - researched after i read a few peeps mentioning various levels of drone with aftermarket systems. A few have mentioned a drone @ 3k with some (?) of the TopGear systems. 'Most' of these seem to either have PDK or Tiptronic mind - and i'm manual shift 🤷♀️ https://www.planet-9.com/threads/is-exhaust-drone-caused-by-cabin-resonance.144401/ ***I came across 'this' with my MX-5 once i'd put a Stainless exhaust on it. It was quite 'alarming'; and once fitted the exhaust i instantly had a truly awful interior 'rattling' from 2500rpm'ish down on decceleration. Turns out 'they all do this' and something that never vibrates before; gets "excited" by the new exhaust frequency and starts rattling like a good'un. Easily solved 👌 Anyway - it perhaps appears it's not so much the exhaust that drones on a Cayman per-se; but the way it works in harmony (Or not as the case may be !) with the harmonics of the Cayman cabin - with which it basically seems as if its a huge amplifier; of some quite specific frequencies. To some degree. But can be easily sorted / nulified / dulled down with some purposely positioned closed cell foam / bass trap foam etc. IF its a problem.... Todays ponderings over 😁 Edited January 1, 2021 by sevenfourate
Popular Post sevenfourate
So my TopGear exhaust has arrived. Yes they take some criticism - and i've previously been one of those perhaps. But at £540 delivered to my door with a discount code i think the quality looks great. At $2000 for the Soul marketed (But essentially the very same) version; maybe thats a different story. For reference heres the X-pipe weld / build quaity: Only thing i will say - is i guess they import the 'system' as such. And then supply their own tail-pipes. Which they have cheaped out on....or you could argue supplied to suit the budget paid ! ***Looks zinc plated underneath. So presuming its not Stainless on the actual part showing...... So: i'm going to top mine off with a set of one of these two below (Once i checked on exact specs): As it appears some sets are a true 3.5" / 89mm outside diameter in regards of the Carbon Shroud. And others are 89mm OD on the stainless inner / pipework. And therefore 100mm / 4" on the OD of the external Carbon. Which means they actually rub / or are an extremely tight fit as pictured below: Making it look a little JDM in its sizing too IMO. **Getting there slowly ! 😁
Hunter
Really keen to hear how you get on here - especially with the cabin drone (or, hopefully, not!). Seems to be very reasonable build quality for the price Edited January 10, 2021 by Hunter

As mine's a daily, I'm undecided on an upgrade. I've put it down the list of priorities for now, but it would be nice to have a little more fanfare - not that the stock system sounds bad when you're up in the rev range!
