juniorjames
Hi All New to the site, and currently looking for my first cayman. Am based in Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex. Would like a gen 2 S having driven both a 2.9 and a 3.4 recently. Am I missing anywhere to look, have been in contact with mortimers prestige, Philip Raby and even RPM (as my dad lives near them). Also, has anyone dealt with these guys, or have any opinions on this vehicle: https://www.jrmotorcompany.co.uk/showroom/porsche-cayman-987-3-4s-pdk-gen-2-2/ thanks in advance! andygo
I'm not sure that car has a 'huge' list of options and seeing as they can't spell 'Carrera' correctly it doesn't bode well for their knowledge and attention to detail IMHO. Plenty more out there.

Barry Wow, every days a learning day. I never knew that. It makes sense as the Carrara White on my car is so different to the 'White' on my wife's Audi. It just looks more classy... What is your wish list… PDK? White? £25k tops? what is your criteria? as to where to look, autoTrader and Pistonheads no doubt you are checking on. Be prepared to travel for the right car I’d say, I sense you might be narrowing it down to where you live but that might narrow it down too much and you can always get a PPI carried out remotely if a car is further away than the ideal
juniorjames
Thanks for responding, all advise appreciated! as to my wish list, really it’s PDK and 3.4 S and yes 25K tops………am I dreaming? Other than that I’m open to options, I’d kind of like Bose speakers and phone hook up but it’s not essential! Quite prepared to travel, and have been in touch with RPM in Harrogate even, as my dad lives near there. just curious if I’d missed any Porsche specialists that the forum would recommend. thanks Simon

At present I don't think there is anything particularly special out there for sale PDK wise at the moment, they are all a bit vanilla. I'll keep an eye out. wtaite01
Here's one you might consider too: https://www.benedictsofbristol.co.uk/used-porsche-cayman-bristol-somerset-3644737 Not a Porsche specialist, so would definitely get a PPI on this one, and you'd need to haggle to pull it under £25K. Outside it's Meteor Grey and it has the correct turbo wheels on it (maybe the 997.1 Turbo diamond cut wheels in the first ad were an option on the early 987.2 I don't know, but I personally prefer the 997.2 Turbo wheels here). Missing the Xenon's though. Spec inside is as the other one, plus sport chrono (makes a noticeable difference on PDK cars apparently) and cruise control. Again, this is a middling spec car in my opinion, but I do like Meteor! Edited August 20, 2021 by wtaite01
Ginginho
That's not a bad one IMO. It's about £3k overpriced for the mileage but obviously it carries a dealer markup and people (trade and private) are still asking strong prices even though the market has started to tail off (IMO). Also no word on service history. I'd want paddle shift but that can be retrofitted.
Neil_jdmr
As I've just gone through the whole " finding the right cayman" thing i thought I'd post up. Ashgoods Cridfords Dovehouse Porshacare Harbour cars Rpm Revolution Plus many others are a good start, i checked autotrader and pistonheads everyday. I found many of those cars are already sold and just not removed. The good ones sell extremely quickly so it's worth contacting the specialists personally and asking them to look out for you. I bought mine from Raj at MR sportscars and can't recommend him enough. He is certainly worth a call. I found all main dealers an absolute nightmare to deal with and outright lied to my face on 2 occasions. 1 porsche md said the car has all of my required options and took a deposit, it turned up with none. They then relisted it again with the make-believe option list. 2. Aston martin md taken a cayman as trade. Had buttons for chrono/pse etc but not the actual equipment. 3. Synter. Lovely low mileage cayman with all options. Data check revealed it was clocked. Sytner told me the mot check was wrong. Just my experience from 9 months searching for the right cayman Edited August 21, 2021 by Neil_jdmr
Davey P
For what it's worth, I bought mine from RPM Technik in Long Marsdon Hertfordshire, and they were brilliant. The car was in mint condition, exactly as they described it, and has been faultless so far in my 5 months of ownership. I travelled 70 miles to view it, and the car was delivered by them free of charge about a week later (without a test drive, due to Covid rules). Good luck with your search mate.
briggy
I also bought from RPM Technik, not be confused with other garages called RPM. The whole process was very straight forward and I'd happily buy from them again. Their in-house warranty covers almost everything an OPC warranty does and they perform services in the same way that OPCs do. As with all places, even those with a good reputation, you still need to be alert. They promised that a scuffed alloy would be repaired, but it wasn't. They rectified this at their cost, at a place of my choice, without any quibble, so I accept that they made an honest mistake. They also overfilled the oil after they serviced it. I've now had the car for 5 years and very happy with it.
Julian987
I notice they do Geometry https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/servicing/porsche-geometry-corner-weighting/ Looks state of the art. Anyone given them a go vs Centre Gravity?

Unless you can go for a PDK R then its a dry period of PDK S's with any razzmatazz spec about them.
Andyoz
It looks like you are set in buying from a dealer which I understand. If you are considering buying privately then also follow a few key Facebook pages like "Porsches For Sale, UK". I see alot of solid cars come through there and it's often owners who have had a terrible part-ex offer and just can't be bothered with the hassle of tyre kickers you can get advertising on AutoTrader, etc. They often post to the Facebook pages with their car priced very keenly to avoid wasting time dealing with loads of enquiries. All you need is a solid PPI and bank the savings as a war chest. It has got harder with WBAC offers being so good this year but that could change.. I had the money sitting around for almost 9 months and actually put 4 deposits down to hold each car. In that time i carried out all the usual checks, dvla/car-analytics etc and checked with the previous places the car was serviced. All 4 had quite serious issues so it's certainly worth waiting however hard. It's a lot of your hard earned money so is certainly worth the extra caution. The right one will come along and you will know it straight away. Edited August 23, 2021 by Neil_jdmr Grammer

I presume you called the places in the Service History book to check they had a record of the service.. I would not have thought of that.
Popular Post Neil_jdmr
Yes i ask for a photo of the service book if they don't offer it up and always ask for the vin. Car-analytics was my most valuable tool in the whole process and saved me buying 2 dubious cars. Its like £7.99 for your first car and 4.99 for everyone after that iirc. You just put the vin number in and it tells you pretty much everything you want to know. Gives you all the dvla history like plate changes, tax, mot, owners, written off or damage, and a mileage. Also you get all the build sheet, where it was built and when, what colour etc. Also all the mot, finance and a whole host of other things. Also the mot mileage stamps which are pretty much as reliable as you can get without a piwis to pull the engine hours from the actual car. It will also red flag 🚩 any issues it doesn't like. For example it flagged the fact the mileage on a car had actually reduced 3000 miles from one mot to another.
