She's looking great S Man, nice work, and must be great seeing all the work pay off. @Kdh ; I've Eibachs like Syer, definitely firmer (you definitely feel it on poorer road surfaces), though seems "smoother" I think on decent road surfaces, and definitely improves things on track. Obviously there's the option to go coil overs too (entry level kits available for under £1K I think)

Thankyou my friend. Yours is looking as gorgeous as ever too ! All running well your end I hope ?

**If only it was ever that simple...

Mechanic ‘lost’ my inner arch protection tape - so that never got fitted. Then on the very first run out I got a rock ding in my new sunstrip (You could argue it saved the screen !?) - and the ‘Specialist’ Geo set up joint: basically managed to scratch / severely mark the high spot of all 10 spokes on all 4 brand new; and then freshly powder-coated wheels 🥵 🤨

Oh and a Lambda sensor decided it didn’t fancy working any longer too 😬 ***Some have said this can happen if the car is laid up / not used much etc. Whatever....... 🤔

So the odd remaining “mechanical” / cosmetic bits are being done Tuesday.

And then it’s off to have the wheels completely re-done [***At the expense of those who caused the damage] and in a very different colour (after quickly finding out how delicate Satin Black can be) the week after........

But yes: driving, looking and feeling great - and had a lot of positive comments on the looks, how modern it now is comparatively, the GT3 vent etc etc

And funnily enough about the biggest difference - is the brakes ! I’d never have believed a simple ‘Caliper service’ could have transformed the bite, feel and sheer tenacity so much. In my old Clio 200 it was a known thing to get the Brembo callipers stripped / cleaned / serviced at the same time as your yearly service.  I would suggest most prudent Cayman 987 owners should do the same. Revolutionary transformation ! Truly.......

Cheers.

So how's the ride compared to standard with the Eibachs after a few miles now. Sorry to keep asking but I have to make a decision whether to have mine fitted or not.

I’m somewhat in agreement with Craig - and somewhat not.

Firstly: again - I’m an Eibach lover. Had them on 5 cars total. Inc my current daily. And I love them on the 987 equally as much as any previous.

But: I think they are the least different to standard compared to the other 4 cars I have direct experience of. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. More a judgement of how stiff / stable the 987 is as standard.

‘Maybe’ that’s because i’m not too many miles into ownership ?  And haven’t truly experienced the really bad roads which shows up the difference more than track use / smooth surfaces as Craig suggested.

Or maybe it’s because I also fitted new compensation plates, drop links, track rod ends, top mounts etc etc back and front at the same time and ‘bought my way out’ of “just” firmer springs being fitted to other 13 year / 45k old parts......

Either way - I would 100% say firmer to some degree. But not crashy / harsh in any way. Definitely less body roll in the twisties. And the improved looks over the comedy stock ride height can’t be argued.

Would I do the same: with the very same springs if I could turn back time ? Hell yea......

Good luck.

Caliper service....never would have thought of that. Am having new discs and pads put on after the Goodwood Track Day end of April, will ask about having this done at the same. Excellent recommendation as always Shuvmeister.

On mine; the spring clips are pins on each caliper are plated mild steel (And i couldn't find stainless ones - like they are on many cars - anywhere). I suspect replacing these made quite alot of difference as they were pretty damned nasty / rusty. As was the handbrake mechanism - which required a decent clean-up and lube.

911 design have a range of options ref Spring-clips / Pins from aftermarket to genuine (All still plated mild steel) to suit your budget. With more time to research than i had - it might be worth finding out if you can find all stainless steel items. Do it once; do it properly and all that........

Good luck !

Thanks for the de-brief on the springs Shuv, jury's still out for me then as the roads around me are getting worse. Sorry to hear about your wheels, exactly the same thing happened to me at an Audi garage but they refused to accept blame. Very difficult unless you have before and after pics. A warning to us all especially those with black wheels.

Craig - wow, those wheels. Can you spare some details? They look amazing.

cheers, Kim

Thanks Kim, I like them too! They're genuine Fuchs, a small number of places sell them in the UK, I ended up using JZM in Kings Lynn as I price checked with them (you can haggle a bit, they undercut Design 911 for example). There are a number of places (UK and US) that do Fuch style wheels, some are quiet good, though often heavier (if weight is a consideration).

Looks ace @sevenfourate! The paint is looking superb, and I'm personally not a fan of black wheels so to me the bronze are an improvement as you can actually see the design detail. Satin Aurum or Weiss-Gold would also look good with Meteor. 👍

Agreed, an unusual mix of colours, but definitely works!

S Man;  You were looking at park light globes that were less yellow in light, did you have any joy?

Cheers!

The baby 987 continues to run strong / great; and has been enjoyed a lot more this year so far ! Never fails to raise a smile from me; and still gets plenty of comments:

But as with any older car - does have the occasional niggle !

The latest of which was a failed 'Tell-tale" LED on the heated rear window switch. Turns out this LED is actually printed on the front of two PCB's inside the climate control unit. **Of which second hand ones (Which could be 17 years old) were £300+. And prices of well into 4 figures for parts alone were being banded around in terms of a repair.

So: off to my trusted, talented, irreplaceable and (Rightly) very well looked after mechanic i go 😁

Taking it all in his stride; he removes the whole climate control unit, splits it apart, removes the PCB(s), diagnoses a broken connection on the offending LED (Which you can see from the second picture next to a ball-point pen.......was the size of the ball on that same pen !!!), re-solders it up and puts it back together. And then charges me an astounding £80.00. Needless to say i topped that up - very grateful for the cheap fixing of an annoying issue - and went home very thankful.

**Unfortunately on getting the car out of the garage that day to take it for Climate control repairs - i noticed a small coolant leak on the garage floor. Its the (Wet in the picture below) joint between a rubber hose and a plastic "Y-pipe" at the bottom of the car on the passenger side.

After looking at a coolant system diagram and then arming 'us' with £55 worth of various clips, internal couplers and different size O-rings from 911Design; i'm hoping this is another easy / cheap fix. We find out Friday !

Cheers for looking........

The climate / aircon in these 987's is pretty good when it's working. I was told it's never that good by the National aircon man but under inspection and £££ of parts and labour later from the garage i bought it from inc 2 new condensers it's as good as my audi.

If you've got a problem, don't be fobbed off but do be prepared to get your wallet out.

Performance wise the air-con is fabulous. Got re-charged 2 years ago when I purchased and still blows ice cold. I do run it as often as I can to keep seals lubricated etc….

Love yours. That’s awesome 😎

Thanks for the info.
